Default iPhone 3G 16GB weiß MB499LL/A unlocked cant activated

    Hi there,

i just bought an iphoen 3g 16gb white from a private seller.
he told me that it is unlocked by factory. model 499LL/A

as i switched it on, it hangs on the pinapplelogo so i put it in dfu mode and restored it with original 2.1.

after flashing and booting in put my german sim in and tried to activate it. no success. itunes reclaims my sim as not correct.
hm, okay, but i thought it was unlocked so it doesnt matter which sim i use to activate?
next try with customs2.2 (without flashing baseband). after that it was activated and completely unlocked. i put in my sim, enter the pin and i am ready to make a call. even internet via 3g works.

    my questions:

    1. referencing to this site (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937?viewlocale=de_DE) it should be locked. but it is unlocked! definitely i made a call and it worked! how can this be possible?

    2. i thought i put my sim in to activate it. could it be possible that i need the original sim which were delivery with the phone? the seller sent me only the iphone, no sim included in the box.

    thanks in advice!

My factory unlocked iphone came with a clear plastic Sim shape card in the tray.

It may be something like this if its an AT&T phone

The model 499LL/A is meant for AT&T subscribers not for German simcard.
Thus, you have a locked version and most probably you need a turbosim to work.
