Interrelation between the GPS module and the carrier network
IF you have an iphone 3G and live in an Apple supported country, could you please remove the sim card from the iphone, get a wifi connection, and try to see if Maps Location can locate you precisely without any carrier network! And let us know you answers please!!!
My point is to check if the GPS module included in the iphone works independantly to any carrier network, and is enough to locate you precisely in a Maps search!!!
If that is the case, even in an non covered area of your carrier, you could use Maps to locate you, providing you could access the internet through wifi!!!
I live in an Apple non supported country and I own a 3G iphone still unlocked of course, and Maps cannot locate me with wifi activated of course!!I just want to know if that makes sens or not!!!!!!
Thanks for your help and answers.
PS: any comments from our dedicated experts is most welcome!

Please, don't bump
. This is a forum, not a help desk.
Regarding to your question, yes, Maps Location works perfectly without the SIM card. Just tested. Hope this helps

Thanks a lot:never did that before.
I guess I was in a hurry for an answer, but that is not an excuse: sincere apologies and thanks again for your answer!
I wonder why mine does not work : any idea or orientation why mine does not work without sim card ?

Maps location without sim card
I just triedn again without success! And my 3G iphone fulfills all requirements:
- My iphone has access to the internet through Wifi
- Location services is on
- Maps is allowed to use location services at the start of search
And still : " Your location could not be determined "!!!
Now, if I search any town of any country, it does work!!
But, it cannot determine my actual location ??
Any thought why so ?

Even outside, holding my iphone 2 foot from my window, wifi connection still on, and it does not work! But now, it does not anymore say "your connection could not be determined", it just stops searching!
