Default Intermitent mic failure after about 20 seconds pretty sure software problem help appr

Hi Element. I purchased a broken 16 gig iphone with intent of fixing it up. It had a broken screen digitizer, LCD and glass, replaced them all and the back for good measure as it was a replacement for my wifeís 8gig.

All went well after using redsnow update baseband ex at&t so ultrasnow could not unlock.

So the first time I noticed there was a problem was making calls. No one could hear me. So I used redsnow reflashed baseband blah blah blah and then hey presto it worked. Emm but then a week later it did it again. I should have mentioned that I had already replaced the speaker assemble inside just in case it was that. So then I checked this assembly by taking the 8 gig one apart swapping about the parts and checking they worked. They did. So I am pretty sure at this point itís some kind of software issue. So I went back to square one, this time using snowbreeze to make a customer IOS 4.2.1 as already present except previously jailbroken stock by redsnow and after a few errors sorted and it worked. Again through was short lived. So I installed fuzzy band and the afc file and just so happened to check it and guess what it worked again. So I am like what the heck. So now Iím really confused so I decided to do a more through test. I spoke on the phone for as long as I could be bothered to see if the mic failed on me ..Guess what almost after 20secs of talking it would begin to blank words then fail completely. If I tried another call it would be completely dead. However if I gave it a few minutes or plugged it into tiny umbrella it would come back 80% of the time not always? So Iím a wits end, its either software or hardware and I have no way of telling if this issue was there before as I could not test before installing the ios in both circumstances.
Other issues since baseband update Wi-Fi says N/A in about section, and 2g calls have no signal, so I wonder if somehow they are all related.

My last option is to sell it off to someone that can fix it or try down grading ios in the hope of a fix, however I donít have my SHSH saved except for 4.ios and above.

I would be greatly appreciated for any help

You're all over the map up there and it's hard to make heads or tails, so I've got a few questions to ask that should help us help you:

    1) What iOS revision do you want to ultimately restore to?
    2) What iOS revision is currently on the device?
    3) What revision is the baseband?
    4) Am I correct in assuming you want to unlock?
    5) What model iPhone? I'm assuming 3G but it's not clearly specified.
    6) Blank WiFi address is usually indicative of a mis-flashed baseband or a dying baseband, and can sometimes be fixed by forcing a re-flash of the baseband (as you have indicated that you've done). The bad news is that if a re-flash doesn't fix it, it could be a problem with the baseband chip itself and would need to be replaced.
    7) iOS 5.0.1 with ultrasn0w 1.2.4 will not work unless you replace the CommCenter with one that is patched from 5.0.0. I *think*, based on your post, that you ended up with 4.2.1, so that may not apply -- but since I couldn't be 100% sure what all you tried, have some more information.

Also, for what it's worth, the iPhone 3G does not need SHSH to restore back to iOS 3.x, SHSH were added as a soft-check in iOS 4 and above on the 3G.

Default Ok hope this info is better explained :")

I would be greatly appreciated for any help[/QUOTE]

Hi m8 sorry about that. Had my four kids flying around me all day and my head was fried lol.
Firstly thanks for replying very much appreciated and letís see if I can answer those questions.
Ok so IOS is 4.2.1 current and Baseband 06.15.00 was flashed with redsnow originally. I was thinking of restoring to maybe 3.1.3 or anything that might get rid of this mic issue and also the WIFI ISSUE. Although in saying that itís not the end of world not to have wifi, but I am thinking all these problems are related somehow and need to resolve this mic issue.
As mentioned above baseband is 06.15.00 and has not been reflashed since using snowbreeze to make custom file 4.2.1 ios. Originally I used redsnow to break IOS 4.2.1 stock from apple server, or the itunes restore stock IOS. I jail broke, then flashed baseband oh yes and also hacktivated.
Since snowbreeze however I did not want to second guess myself by flashing the baseband using redsnow furthermore when I used snowbreeze 2.2 I used preserve baseband as not to mess anything up.
I need to unlock so as the original baseband was excluded from ultrasnow 1.2.4 I had to flash the baseband above which was only one compatible, Iím sorry cant rem the original base band although would recognize it if I seen it. Think itís the only unlockable one.
Regards what u say about a bad flash of baseband this totally makes sense as originally when I did first jailbreak and realized the mic was not working I reflashed the base band and the mic worked temporarily but the Wi-Fi disappeared, so I reflashed and re-jail broke.
I think itís probably worth mentioning I did something Iím pretty sure youíre not supposed to do. I got so annoyed I hit delete all data inside general settings. And bang had to go back to square one, hence I used snowbreeze then as I knew I would be unable to restore using redsnow or itunes !
Yes you are correct it is a standard 3G 16gig iphone
When I got the phone I bought it cracked screen and LCD, so replaced both. I changed the mic and speaker dock connecter as I thought this was not working 1st time. Realized it was not dock as tried in my other iphone.
Phone came with 4.2.1 locked to at&t did the following
Redsnow install cydia, step 2, flashed baseband, step 3 hacktivated. Did this 3 times.
1st time thought worked but no mic so rehactivated and flashed baseband.
2nd time round no WIFI so reflashed hactivated Östill not working,
3rd time redone once again this time hit reset all settings in phone !! bad move ouch !! had to go to snowbreeze then
4th snowbreeze all installed fine couple of itunes errors forget what they were but got to work using tiny umbarela.
    5th reinstalled using snowbreeze.
6th Pretty much too scared to do anything further as I may turn something that works partly into something for junk lol !
    So recap issues.
Mic seems to fail after 30secs 60 secsÖIt is clearÖthen it cuts in and out breaking up conversationÖ..then it dies like someone pulled the plug out.
    WIFI is N/A greyed out.
2G does not work at all, and does with my other iphone 3g, MY one not the wifes (this one)
    3G data all works fine.
So I am still pretty positive because of all these other issues there is a software problem not a hardware problem.
If I switch phone to 2g it goes searching then says no signal
So I hope this is enough info to be able to work out what is wrong with the MIC and my only solution was to go back to an older IOS in the hope that I would sort the MIC being the worse issue and perhaps the other but not the end of the world problems.
Thanks ever so much for listening.

Hmm. Good info, thanks for taking the time to detail. What was the last version of iOS where the mic worked properly? I would begin by attempting to get that version of iOS restored again. Worth mention that if you're downgrading to this from a newer iOS, you'll get a 1601 at the end and need to use TinyUmbrella to kick it out of recovery mode.

I've never seen microphone problems caused by software, but if you recall specifically that an iOS update broke it and can confirm the version of iOS you were on beforehand, at least you can start by restoring to that version and seeing if the problem is solved. Since you're on the 06.15.00 baseband, there's really not too much you can do to the phone to cause problems to your unlock (there is no baseband that will overwrite the 06.15, so worst case you end up bootlooping the phone and having to restore again) -- but do note, you will need to remove the baseband from any custom firmware you're recovering or else you'll get stuck in a reboot loop at the end.

Default Ive sorted it :") but man its weird !

Hey buddy thanks for coming back to me.

Ok well this was such a weird thing to happen.
So i downgraded to 3.1.3 custom, this did not solve problem, and im convinced this is a baseband issue.
So I upgraded again to 4.2.1 custom as I would be unable to go to stock due to baseband. I then used redsnow to flash only baseband and guess what it did not work but the wifi cam on. yea its back thats one plus.

BUT THIS IS where it gets weird. So I rem when my mic went last time i plugged it into tiny umbarella to save shsh files and my mic worked, so i thought it was prob a coincidence then but il try it, and shiver me timbers, guess what the mic worked instantly ?

So I am unsure if this fix wil last, but as ive recently now been buying logic boards and fixing errors on them, this one mentioned above has helped me over come a tonne of errors !!! But it just so happened I FELL ON ANOTHER BOARD THAT had same issue as above, after re-installing ios etc darn mic did not work but it had obviously had baseband flashed before as it was already showing 06.15.00. So I figured I would just use exact same process as above, flash baseband and save shsh using tiny, and guess what it worked.

So im not tech savvy at all, other than learning how to overcome these issues by trial and error and reading etc. So coincidence I doubt, hopefully u guys who work on these must have an idea ? It may be handy for future ref..

ONCE again thanks....OH yes if you ever need a fix for error 6, 9 and 37 let me know these were the hardest errors to get rid off in itunes restore !! and there is not much info out there.
