If you have an iPhone 3G that is unactivated...
I have a phone that is still shrink-wrapped, I got Apple to ring it up with another SIM card not in the packaging and to skip activating it. Is there anyway to spoof that the phone is one of the unlocked ones? e.g. sending your internet through a New Zealand proxy and using a New Zealand prepaid sim or any other country that sells unlocked iPhone 3Gs?
I would be thoroughly amused if the activation process writes the carrier to the baseband, as opposed to it is being hardwired to the phone or something of that nature.
Hopefully that sparks some brilliance in a hacker instead of a flame war about my hyperactive imagination
EDIT ...or does an unlocked phone work on Apple's side using the UUID activation or whatever that is that needs to be cleared to use 3.0 Beta, can that be spoofed?
