I lost a Phone Setting !!!
Hello to the Forum,
This is my first post here.
I'm facing a problem which is quite weird.
I suppose you know all of you where the phone settings are on iphone.
Inside phone settings and far down is a command says:
-> TTY ... and you can turn it .... ON or OFF.
Well, I turned it ON and after an update (which I can't remember, really and I'm sorry about that - I think after updated on 2.2.1 firm or maybe after a jailbrake), I lost the command line from the phone settings (which says TTY) and I'm now having the small icon on my upper right corner ON all the time.
I want to turn it OFF. How ?
Please help me on this matter.
I really don't know what to do...
Thank you.
An iphone user from Athens, Greece.

I'm out & about but so I can't look, but I remember there was a <true/> & <false/> in the carrier bundle settings for TTY
You may need to edit that value to turn it off
<key>ShowTTY</key>
<true/>

Thanks for the immediate answer.
How can I jump to the key ?
I'm using WinSCP (Windows user), I can edit (open) only text files and some without extension (I open them with Notepad) and in the Carrier Bundles directory, are many folders (all the carriers Apple is cooperating with).
Any help on this ?
I think that your approach might be the solution to the problem.
Things get more easier now.
Finally, is there any reg-editor for the iphone...?

Hi you need to edit the carrier.plist located in var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundle.bundle
You can use this program to get the file but you may also need to covert plist the file before you can edit it correctly.

Hi,
I do the job with XMLSpear a nice XML editor which handles Apple PropertyList files.
The value is false/ .
and I double checked it with all the Greek Carriers, I'm having on my Bundles list.
I think that should be the value, or not ?
I changed that to true/, but the same.
I did a reboot and nothing again...
Why ?
Pls advice...

n350z,
I would like to thank you a lot for your precious help.
I did the job with the file (transfered as a binary again back through WinSCP.
Even I am a programmer since 1992, initially I did something wrong.
I understood our conversation WRONG!
And that's the worse thing a programmer can do!
I thought that changing the value I will stop having the TTY icon.... (stupidity!)
But the point is that I added the lost line-TTY command, in my phone settings.
Sorry I am nowadays a little bit tired and because of my age I did mistakes.
Once again thanx for the guidance.
I'll post something back soon... on iphone.
