Theirs only two ways you can have a 3G unlocked on an unsupported carrier.

Its officially unlocked because the countries legal system doesn't allow phones to be lock to a networks or sim solutions.

if you read the details in some of the description, it will say "unlocked to AT&T" or whatever official provider they got the iphone from.

    read carefully.

Only 2 countries have officially unlocked iPhone 3G.

They are Italy and Hong Kong.

I bought an italian unlocked phone off ebay and it works perfectly on every network.

Have a look at apple's activation page for more details:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

There only other way to unlock a 3G is with the SIM adaptor that I don't think is available yet.

Any other methods are scams - and lies - if you get a 3G it will ALWAYS be locked unless its
    from Italy or Hong Kong!

As most are saying it is available unlocked only in 2 countries. And on ebay all items are unlocked by AT&T.

Which is obviously not quite correct as the Belgium iphones are lock-free too

Although Mobistar still responds to inquiries that it has a country lock as they do not want to sell to foreigners because of the shortage, they are sold without lock.

i can only confirm the lock-free Belgium iphone 3G. Works beautifully out of the box with a German sim card.

I do wonder if the beligum phones are not unlocked to every network but will work in countries near to them - maybe they are sharing the phones.

Either way US phones are not UNLOCKED! they are locked.

And if you want to be 100% certain it will work anywhere in the world I would get an Italian phone.

It is fine if your near belgium and can drive back and return the phone but if your not that close it would be the best option to go for an italian phone!

Hr.Kaiser, "unlocked" for US 3G listings is nothing but a gimmick... In the descriptions of these "unlocked" 3G's you'll often see caveats like "when the unlock is found I'll email you the instructions for free", or "unlock will come out very soon", or "unlockable", or "unlocked to at&t", etc... Bottom line: don't trust everything you see on ebay...
