I have a 16GB iPhone 3G. I called ATT and activated it... the sim came... it didnt work. Went to store, they couldn't get it to work. Went to Apple... they said phone is from Sweden and can't be used unless I do illegal things that will void warranty.

So now I'm home with the nice phone, and it's stuck on the sim unlock screen... no defaults have worked. It has a telenor sim card... and I have my own ATT sim... what can I do to use this phone?? How can I by-pass this screen?

I am a current T-Mobile customer, so if I can use with my current carrier that will be even better! I took the phone to a guy and he jailbroke it, and it opened... but i've since restored and now he says he cant jailbreak again (but I'm thinking it was because I went back with the ATT sim the second time)

Anyway... I just want to know if there's any hope for this phone or if I should keep dreaming about a 32GB in two weeks. According to apple, telenor doesn't offer unlock codes... so i would have to go the hack route... Would I be better off waiting until a 3.0 hack is released??

Pardon my rambling... just looking for any help/advice here... thanx in advance

forgot to mention... the guy that jailbroke it the first time mentioned sumthing about a modem firmware 2.3 and not being able to unlock it (but at least I was able to use facebook with wifi)

hey dude well .. you can jailbreak as much as you want thats 1st !! you can unlock it and make it work with anysim card .. but since you you mentioned the Baseband 2.30 you ( till this moment ) unable to software unlock you iphone and you need to use the hardware method ( Turbosim ) which will make you able to work with any carrier ( of course with less features ) but you will be able to use at atleast as a PHONE !! ... and about the firmware 3.0 i believe it's still too soon to think about upgrading to it because it's still new and no one knows what is it hiding for us !!

thanx man... what features are absent when using turbosim?? im assuming visual voicemail and perhaps lack of 3g... i think i'm just gonna wait until 3.0 is released and move to att... i would hate to pay $400 in tmobile cancellations + the price of a new iphone

seeing as this iphone won't meet any of my needs, i guess im gonna sell it.... would there be a market for an iphone in this condition (from sweeden... and locked O_o) in the US.. or should I look to sell overseas via ebay... or should i save upwards to a thousand dollars by keeping it and waiting for a modem fw 2.3 and os 3.0 hack???

hmmm option 3 sounds most viable

but if i can fetch $300 for this iphone (not sure if thats around the current market value or not) and i can easily get $200 for my brand new tmobile g1... maybe i can keep one line on tmo (meaning only $200 cancellation fee... basically selling my g1 to pay for its cancellation) and selling the 16gb sweedish iphone to buy a 16gb us iphone, or hopefully a 32 gb iphone

decisions decisions... what do you think?

hey dude XD look my advice for you just keep the things as it is .. just get the turbo sim and depending on it's quality you will have more features .. some turbo sims can offer you 90% of the normal iphone features and it will cost about 50$ so just get it and live with it until any Dev-Team updates and belieave me soon there will be an unlock for everythin !!

i dont prefer selling your iphone you will lose alot of cash that you paid and i dont think you will consider having another iphone !! i have 2 iphones the 1st one 8GB and soft unlocked and works great .. the other one which is 16GB upgraded to 2.3 and stuck with it !! waiting for a soft unlock but am also working on a turbosim on it and works pretty good no problems 3g works fine but it disconnects once a week but it's ok better than not having a working iphone !!

You've been a tremendous help!!! If a 32GB iphone was released I would def want to get it, but that TMo cancellation fee would be a major hindrance... this Turbo sim will let me use the iphone with my tmo sim (no cancellation)... thats a big plus... which turbosim do u recommend (provide link if possible)

sure dude no problem !! well the turbosim well let you able to work on any version of iphone firmware and on any baseband too .. the most famous one is the Rebelsim ( Unlock iPhone 3G unlock 3g phones including apple iphone 3g and No Jailbreak or software required ) you can go check it there ... you can download and upgrade to versions 3.0 FW and the turbosim will work jut great but REMEMBER the baseband will be upgraded to 4.22 !! a new baseband which we know nothin about it's capabilities of unlocking for future plans ! ) so my advice to wait some time and keep checking the forum for more update on the firmware 3.0 !!
