I get the same error 1600 when I try a custom 2.0.2 from iphoneix.de . Its clearly not a firmware problem.... something else is the problem here......... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i tryed restoring to a custom 2.0.2, and I got the same error......... now what???????????

I also tryed this freaky thing, as I have read from others that the white dfu screen is better than just the blank black one...... I did a restore to an official 2.1, and when it got to the white screen, I unplugged the usb cable, forcely quit itunes with task manager, then put the usb back in and started itunes again, so that iTunes detected the phone as in recovery mode (screen was still white) and after I tried shift clicking a custom 2.1, it went through like the first step and then gave me the 6 or 1600 error (I don't remember) without the screen even modifying...... so, my guess is that this is an itunes problem regarding the fact that it does not accept these custom firmwares...... couldn't I use an older winpwn version to pwn itunes like we used to do before? can ituens 8 be pwned? could I downgrade to itunes 7.7.1, and leave the apple mobile device driver like it is now, with the 8 version? would that work? it would be great to be able to pwn itunes (of course, not with 2.1 because winpwn doesn't accept it), to pwn it with say, 2.0.2, and then shift click a custom 2.1.......... would this work?

did you try using itunes 7.7.1 and then tried restoring.......and if still doesn't work try putting the phone in recovery mode and then try the restore.....


To put the the phone in recovery mode
1 shutdown the phone make sure the cable is not connected to the phone
2. now hold the home button.....keep holding the home and insert the dock cable in the phone dock connector......don't release the button yet, now an apple bootup screen would show up and just few seconds later you'll observe you are in recovery mode

3. then restore the iphone using the custom firmware you want

-I would say try a version of iTunes 7 and see if anything works there.
-if your phone is connected using a hub, try directly connecting it to the computer, and also try other usb ports.

I tried restoring to an official 2.0.2 with itunes 8, on my 3g, but this time I ran into 1013 unknown error............... I'll try the itunes 7 thing also..........
I got the 1013 unknown error in dfu mode restore and also in recovery mode restore.........
I guess that the 2.1's baseband cant be downgraded.... wish I had more brains and didn't upgrade to 2.1 from the stock 2.0 it had............. I hope I'll be able to jailbreak it at least..............

dude, I don't understand anything now.... if this phone was never pwned before, how would uploading a custom firmware to it make it work???? I did try itunes 7.7.1.1.1 or whatever, but I received the same 1600 error... How the freak do I pwn this 2.1 under windows???????????? how come u advised me to try itunes 7, when the solution has no relevance, 'cause the phone (or itunes or whatever the dev team software pwns) is not being pwned.......
COULD SOMEONE explain this to me????????? WHAT DOES GET PWNED? ITUNES? THE PHONE? THE FIRMWARE??? ALL OF THEM?????? I don't know why I didn't think about this before.......... Just checked your first post in this thread:

In post 16 you`re telling you live in Romania. So "fresh from store with 2.0 activated" and "Romania" means you are a legit customer of Orange Romania???

Then you are telling you upgraded to 2.1 with itunes. If you are a legit customer the iPhone 3G should have been activated/unlocked again, right?

So you got a working iPhone 3G. Why dont you just wait for Quickpwn for windows with support for fw 2.1?

If you are not a legit customer, upgrading to 2.1 in iTunes was not the best idea. The Dev Team always pointed out not to cahnge the 2.0 baseband, but that is what you did.

Is the above correct (legit user...)?

I do live in romania, but the iphone was bought fresh from store by my friend in morganville new jersey...........
it was activated (with 2.0) but then I upgraded it to 2.1 through itunes thinking that I will be able to upgrade it then to a custom 2.1 with cydia and installer........ it turned out not to be the best idea...... I should have pwned the 2.0 and then upgraded to a custom 2.1.........
yup, my bad........... I was to happy because of finally receiving the phone after weeks of problems with at&t which took a 300 deposit out of my friends account and charged me calling fees even though no calls was made...... so, I am not an Orange legit user......... they're prices are as crazy as at&t's plans................

Yep, you are stuck then. There is no unlock for the 3G so far plus the baseband is upgraded already. Looks like you will only be able to use the iPhone as an iPod as soon as you are able pwnaging it.

Cause your modem firmware is already at 02.11.07 (matching 2.1) due to upgrading to 2.1 in itunes you see tons or errors when you try to restore to older firmware. What i really dont get is why you cant just restore to Apple firmware 2.1 in iTunes 8...

You'd probably have to wait then for quickpwn for windows with 2.1 support but...
