So i just got an iphone 3g from a friend, and stupidly reset it to factory, now i have no o2 sim to activate it, its on OS4, the power button doesn't work either.

How can i go about unlocking it or even activating it?

Without power button.. you need to resort to the trick explained in this thread http://www.hackint0sh.org/f206/80193.htm

First deliberately corrupt the LLB (as explained in the thread) this will work by modifying any iOS version up to 3.1.3 - probably requires iTunes <9.2 also.

Then you need need to start with pwnagetool custom iOS and you need to use pwnagetool, not redsn0w or any other jalbreak tool.

The timing is tricky, but it does work (have tested on a 2G iPhone)

Okay so i got this sorted, i got a pay and go sim card which worked.

So now i need to sort this screen and power button out

I've ordered the glass and digitizer which i plan to fit myself, but with the power button, do i need to order the "loom" with the headphone jack, volume and mute controls on aswell?

And is there a tut on how to fit it?
