Sorry if these questions have been answered, but I am a complete noob. So I was planning on buying an iPhone through a friend who has AT&T. However, before I do so I have a few questions.

1. Can I Jailbreak/Unlock the phone without activating the phone through AT&T?

2. I read that if you have baseband 2.3, you can't unlock your phone. So if I bought an iPhone now, would it come with baseband 2.3?

3. Assuming I successfully unlock/jailbreak the phone, do I lose any features the phone has to offer? (I'm using T-mobile btw)

1.- Jailbreak, yes. Unlock, Only if it doesn't have the 02.30.03 Baseband
2.- Probably yes
3.- No. Only Visual Voicemail

Thanks for the help but I got one more question.

Wouldn't AT&T get suspicious when you choose not to activate the phone? You just signed a 2 year contract with them for an iPhone and all of a sudden your not going to use it? (The reason why I don't want to activate it is because I don't want AT&T to charge my friend $30 a month for the 3g access.)
