    Default A few general questions

I have been reading posts for hours now and have picked up on quite a few things I did not know awhile ago but still have some very basic questions that I have not found the answers to probalbly because they are so simple no one has to post them!

My situation is as follows: my wife wants a phone and a pay as you go deal from virgin moble. I would like to get her a iphone to use with virgin.

1.can I use virgin with an unlocked iphone? The answer to that will solve alot of reading.

    2. There are hundreds of iphones on ebay that are unlocked which vary in price quite a bit. I am assuming from my reading that most of these phones are only unlocked by use of a sim card mod and not by software.

What is the difference of using a sim card mod like turbosim to a software unlock?

3.What are the current scams on ebay concerning the iphone and what should I look for and look out for when thinking about purchasing one?

    4. Why do you believe that some iphones are selling for $800 and others for $300 new and unlocked?

I understand these are very trivial questions for you guys but it would be nice to get some experienced advice before making a purchase.

    thanks

Very far from "Brand New Questions", by the way... Definitely been asked dozens, if not hundreds of times.

    1) Yes.
    2) Depends. Original iPhones can either have a software or hardware unlock. Software is the most common and will need to be re-done with most firmware upgrades. 3G iPhones claiming to be unlocked are more than likely a scam at this point.
    3) Uh... are you serious? If you use a little common sense, scams are very easy to spot on ebay.
    4) Bidding wars between idiots who feel "what's another $5?"

So, pick a phone that you want (2G or 3G), pick a provider, buy it, unlock it yourself with the instructions posted on this very forum.

I really meant "Brand New" as reference to myself. I thought they would have been asked somewhere but actually got tired of reading, most threads feel like they are in code when you are a novice!

The ebay questions was really about cloning and real rip offs.
Now that you tell me Virgin mobile can be a provider I will continue with my reading.

    thanks for the reply

just remember, there isn't a software unlock for the iphone 3g yet, so don't go out buying a 3g iphone thinking you can unlock it and use virgin.
you can jailbreak the 3g but not unlock it yet.... (maybe in a couple of more weeks)
