Default Factory Unlocked 3G Freeze at Lock Screen

I have been trying to work around this for a while:

Brand new, OOB 16Gb 3G iphone bought it Italy, model MB500T.

Works flawlessly except that if you let it go to the Lock Screen (Slide to Unlock) it FREEZES 100% of the times, instantly. I have done infinite restores with 2.1 (it was 2.1 OOB), I have pawned, then restored again, no luck. It will Freeze as soon as it goes to lock screen. Only way out is turn off holding both hard buttons for a few seconds.

When you power it on, you have to be quick to slide to unlock, because after a few seconds in the slide to unlock screen it freezes again.

I have not been able to downgrade it to 2.0.2 (DFU, option-restore, it goes all they way thru but at the end it shows error 1013 and enters recovery mode).

Unfortunately I brought this unit down to Brazil so I cannot count on warranty.

Any one seen anything like this?

Anyone knows how to downgrade it? It is the only test I was not able to do..

    Thanks
    Fabio

If it is OOTB 2.1 you cant downgrade cause the baseband is newer on 3G iPhones. Only the same on 2g iPhone from 2.0-2.1.
I would try to DFU restore to Apple FW 2.1 in iTunes. If this aint help I dont know of a solution besides using warrenty (I know your problem...)

there won't be any solution just "yet" because i have the same problem back when i got my first iphone (2g). I think the factory baseband have some kind of errors (they manufacture million iphone so at least 2-3 will have error no suprise here). So, you can do a quick DFU to refresh it to a factory state and contact any friend that use official service and go directly to Apple website enter your serial # and ship the phone to them (they may take it). Or they'll repair for 250. So, good luck. If you have more question please contact me.

Thanks volkspost, I guess it is a dead end then... I will try to claim warranty internationally or wait for some friend to go up to Italy and exchange it. Cheers.
