Do I have to activate iPhone?
My 2-year contract with AT&T(no data plan) just finished recently so I got a cheap iPhone online at att.com by renewing another 2-year + data plan. I plan to port my number to T-mobile after 30 days and sell the iPhone on ebay.
So do I have to activate the iPhone during the 30 days? I was told by an ATT rep that the $30/m data plan fee only starts when I activate the iPhone, in other words, they can pro-rate the data plan fee before I activate it. So I'm thinking if I don't activate it at all and just switch to T-mobile on Day 31. I don't need to pay the $30 data plan fee at all. Right?
Thanks for sharing any of your experience.

So you paid.. $100 for the "cheap" iphone, then are gonna pay $170 for cancellation, putting you at $270 just to sell it for about $350-400? iPhones on ebay arent worth much unless theyre unlocked.

Brand new refub 8gb can be sold for $480-$500 Buy-It-Now price on Ebay if you observe the market closely, since live.com 11% rebate only applies to Buy-It-Now price). No reserve bid may sell for less. If unlocked, may sell for more.
Back to my original question, anyone has expericence on the data plan charge?
Thanks.
