Default Cydia crash and youtube not working after jailbreak on iOS 3.1.3

I just jailbreak with redsnow 0.9.4 and restore to firmware 3.1.3 on my iPhone 3G and I can't install anything in Cydia it will crash right away. So pretty much I can't even do anything in Cydia. When I try to search and type 1 letter it crash right away. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Also my Youtube isn't working after jailbreak:smack:

Have you let Cydia update fully after you jailbroke?

This is the recommended approach: restore the phone with stock 3.1.3, jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.2 or 0.9.4 (using a 3G 3.1.2 IPSW) and then set it up as new, then let Cydia first relocate files and then update (make sure you have screen lock turned off during this initial Cydia setup)

If you bothered to search - you would see that youtube not working after jailbreak is a common side effect of either incorrect hacktivation or restoring from an already jailbroken iTunes backup. The most recommended fix is SAM (installed from Cydia) in conjunction with Ultrasn0w.

Yeah, thank you for the tip I was figuring I needed to install SAM. I just thought SAM was mainly used for iOS 4.x and to fix the battery drain for that iOS. I did let Cydia finish loading that loading took very very long lol. Then after I try to install things like going to BossPref and install SBSettings it would crash so fast when I put it in the Search box. How do I actually update Cydia? When updating Cydia will I lose those default repo like saurik/boss/ultrasnow/etc? Is it because Cydia is old that came pre-install with redsnow 0.9.4?

The Cydia bundled with 0.9.4 is old (yes) but it was designed to work with 3.1.3 - It should work fine.
    SAM works on 3.1.3

You haven't answered about whether you restored 3.1.3 and set up the phone as new. One cause of Cydia problems can be if you "in-place-upgraded" to 3.1.3 or restored from iTunes backup.

Darn, just reread your post again. I didn't do it in your order. I did it like this:
    1. Pwn dfu restore iTunes 3.1.3
    2. Jailbreak redsnow 0.9.4 (Just checkmark Cydia only)
    3. Load up Cydia (let it do its thing forgot if I added binger repo after it was done)
    4. Open iTunes setup as a new phone

Does step 3 and 4 matter by order? If it does I can just restore it once more again. How do I update Cydia? Think I need a update on Cydia everytime I open it Reloading Data takes so so so so long to finish loading. Will Update Cydia fix the loading problem? Is it at Changes go to Cydia Installer click Upgrade? When I do that I see it say it will remove all my defaulted sources from the jailbreak. I will lose BigBoss, Cydia Community, Dev-Team, iSpazio, Modmyi, Ste, and ZodTTD. Is the upgrade worth it? The upgrade say it will install BigBoss Icon Set, Cydia Translations, Debian Utilities, and UIKit Tools but no sources?

Why did you need to "pwn dfu" restore 3.1.3? That suggests you restored a custom IPSW. Normally such a custom IPSW would include Cydia. If that was the case, there is no need to use redsn0w.

The "update" in Cydia is what I was saying you MUST accept.

It refers to the new Cydia 1.1 version released during the weekend. Version 1.1 is *faster* than the Cydia bundled with redsn0w.
Cydia 1.1 also changes the way default sources are tracked, that is why it says that it will remove these sources. Don't worry, these sources will still be accessible after the upgrade.

When you first install Cydia it needs to do three things:
    1. Relocate files - this might happen automatically the first time you open Cydia
    2. Rescan all the default sources and download the latest list of packages from each (this is the process that ends with Reloading Data)
    3. Update Cydia itself (as redsn0w 0.9.4 bundles a very old version of Cydia)

Then you will likely need to restart the phone and after the restart when you open Cydia - it will do another "refreshing sources/reloading data" stage before it is finally ready for you to actually use.

I put device into dfu because I thought that is how we need to install firmware as in iTunes detect the device in recovery mode to update lol. So I don't need to turn off iPhone and put it in dfu? I can just hold shift restore on iTunes with the phone being turn on or it needs to be off then Shift restore? Well, I just restore once more since I did step 3 and 4 outta order. Now i'm going to update Cydia. So after update Cydia finish all those sources will come back? Or I need to manually write it down then type Add it in after? From your post Step 2 will give me back those default sources?

After update Cydia to 1.1 I can start installing ultrasnow and bingner repo?

There's a difference between DFU and pwned DFU (and there are actually different types of pwned DFU depending on what iPhone you are talking about)

I was only objecting to the "pwned" part of your statement, restoring a stock IPSW via DFU is fine.

The sources will still be in Cydia after the upgrade.

Oh, no i just put the device in DFU by turn off phone hold sleep/home button 10 sec etc.. Then open iTunes shift restore? Is that the correct way to restore? Updating Cydia as we speak. Thanks a lot for your great support so far. Btw, is the start (Reputation the thanks button?) I just thanks you for your time in helping me out with noob questions. I get really scared when it say to Upgrade/Update things in iPhone scared I will lose my unlock.

http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/54082.htm is how you enter DFU mode.

Upgrade in Cydia is generally nothing to be stressed about.
