Default Using the iPhone as a modem?

I was wondering if I can use my iPhone as a modem for my laptop?

I was with a friend this weekend and he plugged in his cell phone via a usb cable and was able to use AT&T's 3G network on his laptop while we were driving around.

Was woundering if this was possible on a 3G iPhone?

    Thanks, from Las Vegas

The other option is with OpenSSH through the USB cable, see this tutorial.
That requires more settings etc., whereas PDANet is more a one-click solution -- but it's sold at $ 29 ("The free version will limit you to only http web traffics, otherwise it is the same as the full version which supports all connections.", says the author).

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

ALL I can say is that PdaNet is the S**T!

Installed PdaNet on my 3G iPhone then installed PdaNet Desktop Client on my laptop. Plugged in my iPhones usb cord into the laptop. Started Pdanet on the iPhone, clicked on the Pdanet icon in the windows tray at the bottom and your conneted to the internet. That easy...........

So cool... Now when I'm out and about I can use my iPhone 3G to let my laptop connect to the internet.
