Question Can you SSH into your phone to install apps?

I have a 3G that is jailbroken/unlocked. It use to work in itunes but now I get SIM card not supported. I can't sync or anything now.

Can I use ifunbox and SSH to add the ipa file from my itunes library? If so how can I do it? What is the file on my phone where I put the ipa files?

    TIA

Just restore the phone and jailbreak again. You have likely accidentally upgraded to a newer version of iPhone OS and this is why you get the "sim card not supported".

Also, you can buy applications on the iPhone via the AppStore, if you have already purchased the app, you can download it again for free. So you don't need to sync your IPAs from iTunes.

So I will need to download all my apps again? Most are free so it isn't a $ issue but the data and there are 7 pages of them!

Is there a way to know if I did infact update it to a newer version? When I called my carrier they said it was because the phone was unlocked therefore I will run into issues.

Don't you have wifi? then there is no data cost.

If you restore and jailbreak again, it is likely you will be able to sync apps again.

WiFi...I wish...I don't even have highspeed on my computer, I am on dialup

I guess I can find WiFi but it may be a challenge. So I would have to download everything again? Is there no way to back them up? I thought if you SSH you could see the files on your phone, could I not locate those IPA files and save them?

I would hate to have to download 7 pages of apps again. I guess I will if I HAVE to I will but want to make sure there aren't other options first.

Thank you so much for helping me, I really appreciate it

1 more thing. How do I restore the phone? I know before when itunes finds it there is that option but all I get when I plug it in is SIM not supported.

Okay, we are talking at cross-purposes. This thread has been confusingly answering two different sets of questions. Firstly about app syncing and secondly about jailbreaking/restoring. I will focus ONLY on the second topic now.

It is 99% likely that you upgraded to a newer version based on the symptoms you describe.

You obviously want to avoid re-downloading the apps.. So lets put the app issue aside and fix your other problem.

Okay we have to make some assumptions at this point. Your symptoms line up with accidental upgrade via iTunes. This happened recently so we have to assume you upgraded to OS 3.1.2

Are you on windows or mac?has this iPhone been connected to other computers? (especially around the time it started saying that the sim was not suppported)

Your best solution then is to use redsn0w 0.9.2 to re-jailbreak your iPhone.

Redsn0w will guide you through the process of putting your iPhone into the right mode to rejailbreak.

Redsn0w prompts you for an original apple 3.1.2 ipsw you say that you are on a slow dialup connection and this is a 250megabyte file. This file must have been downloaded automatically by iTunes on the computer that was used to accidentally upgrade your iPhone. So you should have the file already. Look for it.

I am using Windows. This is the 2nd computer my phone has been plugged into. My first laptop where I activated and synced my phone crashed. I then installed itunes on my 2nd laptop and that is where I got the SIM not supported. Have never used itunes on the 2nd so not sure how it updated.

When I use redsnow will that delete my apps? Maybe I should make a list before I do this.

    I have this file : iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
3.1.2(7D11) is what my phone already is though...does that matter.

I don't understand something though. First you said that I accidently upgraded to 3.1.2 but then you said redsnow will prompt me for that same one anyway.

My husband has the same phone with the same version and his works. Also he is the one who jailboke/unlocked via blackrain and he says that it was alway 3.1.2.

Can you clarify before I go any further.

    Okay, finally some useful information.

Firstly, are you sure that you don't have a 3GS (or your husband has a 3GS) this iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw is for a 3GS. You said originally you have a 3G iPhone.

Secondly, now you mention that you are connecting to a different computer. You should not get the "SIM not supported message" but that helps me understand the situation better.

Do you still have the sim card that came with your iPhone originally? AT&T or whichever network the phone was locked to?

My husband's is a 3GS but mine is the 3G.
I did not get a SIM card with the phone because I bought it used.
Sorry I did not give you the info you were looking for but this thread has taken a totally different turn. My original question was about SSH and not itunes and syncing.

I asked my husband if he ever updated and he said that it would be impossible since the file is 250MB.
