Lightbulb Can U.S iPhone with Indian iPhone Sim Need Unlock ?

iPhone is officially available here in India. But, owing to f*cked up pricing ($700 for 8GB), my friend told me that he can send me an iPhone from the U.S.

So, if I put a Vodafone/Airtel sim (2 carriers withwhich the iPhone works in Indian), would I be able to bypass unlocking ?

P.S: I heard unlocking is still not reliable in the iPhone 3G firmware.

As far as I know, you can't. [iPhone 3g] Can i use it on any legal carrier?

Regarding to the 3G unlock, FYI: iPhone 3G cannot be unlocked yet

Hey man, I own the Original iPhone. It started giving me problems with the speaker recently, So for me it was money down the drain, as I cannot get it fixed neither am I able to get warranty on it. So I won't suggest you to buy a iPhone without warranty. Or any technological product for that matter. Luckily my problem got solved by blowing into the headphone jack, Its better to get the real deal.
