    Default Broken Iphone 3g HELP!!!!!!

So I traded my phone on craigslist for an iphone 3g 8 gig. I thought that it worked fine when I got it...or so I thought. I wanted to unlock it but I realized that the WIFI was not working properly. When I go to settings the Wifi tab is simply greyed out and it will not allow you touch it. I think the kid that traded it with me Improperly jailbroke it and unlocked it. Does anyone know if this is permanent or is there something I can do? I restored it and sent it to Apple and they said they wont fix it because it was broken due to accidental damage or misuse...FML!!!

Several peoples are reporting wifi issue… indeed this might be apple bug as they instruct to ‘network reset’.

Hope this will be fixed in 3.1. Anyways request apple care to rectify the issue ( its just about convincing them)
    Thanx * Rgds,

i just recieved my new phone back from apple due to no wifi connection. luckily it was still under warranty and was never missused so it looked like brandnew. I was actually very impressed with apple's customer service. I sent the phone in Monday and recieved a brandnew one at my door step Thursday morning. Wifi is now working great and this phone actually seems alot faster then my old one was. thumbs up to apple

this exact thing happened to me on my ipod touch. I tried everything!! It was absolutley ok until i upgraded to 3.0 OS. I think the wifi component was knackered and it would cost a fortune to replace. In the end i had to admit defeat and recently bought a 3G iphone.

I bought mine second hand, from Ebay, but i made sure i collected it from the sellers house. So if there had been any problems.....

If Apple are saying that they can't/won't help because they have decided it it has been misused i dont think there is much you can do

You can keep on at them.....

Hi I also have the iPhone 3G and my wifi settings are grayed out with the words "No wifi" and in the about section the wifi address says "No Wifi" also. i have tryed the resets and the full restores as recommended by apple, and have had no luck. I am currently at 3.1.2 firmware and jailbroken. the problem started for me about 3 days ago I noticed I was no longer connecting to the wifi at my work and rebooted then noticed the grayed out screens. I have seen on this forum and others that the 2g had a firmware "Payload" fix for the same type of issue. Is there anything like this for the 3G?

There is no such tool for 3G iphones.

Apple increased the security with the 3G and 3GS baseband and they cannot be manipulated at such a low level like the 2G baseband can.

I would discuss this with Apple, many 3G iPhones are still under warranty and if you purchased Apple Care extended warranty for your iPhone you will definitely get this fixed. Just make sure you restore to a non jailbroken state. Also be aware that exchanging a phone now with apple will probably result in you getting one that can't be unlocked with ultrasn0w. If that is important to you.
