anyway to nuke an iphone 3g back to orginal state?
i have an iphone 3g in my hand
that my friend got from ebay
i was trying to unlock it for my friend,
however i discover that
the system is kinda sorta messed up
there are some apps installed on there used to change imei
after i jailbreakeed it
so the real history of the iphone is unknown
is there any way i can just erase everything and restore it back
to its original state?
or if any one can point me to some other posts so i can research it?
Thank you
Best Regards,

hmm..your problem is very troubleing....
Alas! My meditation has given me the answer!
STEP ONE, POWER UP ITUNES!
STEP TWO, CONNECT YOUR IPHONE!
STEP THREE, CLICK ON THE IPHONE IN THE SIDEBAR
STEP FOUR, IN THE BOX UNDER YOUR PHONE NUMBER, THERE WILL BE A BUTTON CALLED: RESTORE!!
STEP FIVE: CLICK IT!!!!
STEP 6&7, FOLLOW THE ON SCREEN DIRECTIONS
ok thats enough drama,,,
try that, come back and tell us if it worked
actually, before restoring, go into the app's that edited the IMEI settings, see if there is a "restore to default" thing or similar,,
best of luck

I think (THINK?) going in to DFU mode and restoring should get it back to factory...? Have you tried this?
-
already tried both of the above methods.
but still doesn't work
that's why i'm up here and asking
but ill try them again and see.

yeh I'd say the DFU mode restore MUST work!

Just be careful that you don't upgrade your baseband to 2.30 if you want to use yellowsn0w.

Changing the IMEI is illegal in most countries - if it has been 'changed' it could have completely buggered the phone. Not sure how they work but the chances are the reason they wanted to change it is because the phone has been blacklisted so if you do get it back to it's original state it won't work anyway.
