Default anyone here use apt-get? I get an unknown command error...

I'm looking for detailed info. So far, my google searches have only come up with people asking similar questions with the responders barely given any guidance. Just use "terminal"

That's fine but I'm obviously using Terminal or Putty if I'm trying to use the command.

So what do I need installed and how do I properly connect to the phone to run this command? My steps...

    1. Have OpenSSH installed
    2. Connect to my iphone using Winscp
    3. Open Putty through command
    4. type apt-get remove cydia

I have tried apt-get alone and the command is still not recognized. Not sure what else I need to do for putty to recognize the command.

Please help. I'd like to avoid having to restore just to get Cydia working again. Hoping to remove / reinstall through apt-get

what's going on? Cydia not working?

apt-get remove Cydia (capitalized C - case sensitive)

Yeah, I tried installing Winterboard and Cydia crashed during that. Winterboard not installed and Cydia now just crashes instantly after opening it. I tried re-jailbreaking but that didn't help

The thing is the command itself is not recognized. If I just type "apt-get", it just says unknown command. Unless it would do that if I had nothing after the command. I definitely didn't type Cydia with c in caps

    I don't recall if it's case sensitive.
what firmware are you running on phone.
if you run fw 3.0 and used redsnow to JB, apt-get is not installed by default.
you have to use cydia, search for apt and install it.
Since you can't run Cydia then easiest is just restore (wipe everything on phone) the phone and jailbreak a clean phone again. When done, run Cydia and update all essentials stuff, and install apt-get.

I had the same thing and as per dtube's post it seems the new redsn0w does not install the pkgs by default. You need to install the aptitude package once cydia is installed, along with other essentials like SSH.
Restore & re-jailbreak looks the only option....
