Any way to tell the software/baseband by looking at a sealed 3G box?
Hi,
So I have read and paid attention to the fact that baseband 2.30.03 cannot be unlocked (which comes with software 2.2.1).
But since Apple and AT&T are selling phones without contracts (yes, for a lot of money), I was thinking of buying one, but I wanted to know if anyone knew of a way to tell what version of software/baseband is on the phone just by looking at the sealed box. Obviously, if I'm going to buy a no contract phone, I'd like to (hopefully) be able to know if I'm going to be able to unlock it, or not.
Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure it is not possible.
Even with the phone in your hands, powered on, you won't have an easy way to know what FW it is before activation.
The odds that the phone has the latest FW is quite high.
But for a few $ you can have a turbo sim or so ...
