Default after update 2.2 no simcard problem

    Hello,
i have one iphone from italy. its sim free. iphone 3G 16GB Sim Free, never locked

i made an uodate to 2.2 over itunes. now the iphone cannot recognize any sim cards. the iphone says pls. insert a simcard. i tried to restore the iphone...but nothing. also Jailbreak with pwnage brings nothing.

But here something strange...... i saw the IMEI is changed. The IMEI on this iphone now is 0049xxxxxxx not 01xxxxx

does anybody have the same problem? can anybody tell me if its possible to change the imei with a tool or something else?

    many thanks

    Zoran

As far as I know, there is no way that iTunes would change your IMEI. There is also no way iTunes would lock an already unlocked phone, so you have either been sold an iPhone that was not originally unlocked by Apple (i.e. someone has been inside and done a hard sim alteration and miss-sold it to you) or someone has swaped out your iPhone when you were not looking.
There is no tool to alter a 3G IMEI numer and even if there was it would not make any odds.

Just verify that you really do have an officially unlocked iPhone.

Goto settings --> General --> About
Scroll down to Model and look for it on this table

If it truly is unlocked, then you need to contact Apple. I doubt the Boards will be able to help you with this.

I have just been reading that you used PwnageTool. Did you use a custom firmware to get the iPhone jailbroken??? If so, did you download the custom firmware somewhere? If so, this could be a reason.
Before heading to apple for repair. DFU restore in iTunes to firmware 2.2. Make sure to have iTunes 8.0.2 isnstalled and do not use any custom firmware for now.

Get the iPhone into DFU mode. When in this mode the iPhone screen is black.
    1. Connect the iPhone and your Mac/PC
    2. Shut down iTunes
    3. Hold Power/Sleep until the red slider shows up, slide to shut the iPhone down. If this aint work hold Power/Sleep and Home until the iPhone shuts down.
    3. Hold Start/Sleep and Home for 10 seconds (I count like 100, 200, 300, ..)
    4. Let go of Start/Sleep but keep holding Home until...
    5. ... iTunes starts up and finds an iPhone in restore/recovery mode. The iPhone screen is black.

In itunes hit "Restore" then. After the restore is done, the iPhone should be unlocked via iTunes (cause it is from Italy). If iTunes offers then to "restore from backup data", dont do it, instead "setup as a new iphone". Sync after that.

If it is really an Italian iPhone it is unlocked and will remain to be. Then use Quickpwn to jailbreak the iPhone.

If this aint work, you have to return the iPhone to Apple, check the part# before (post above) to make sure you really got an iPhone from Italy.
