Ok so I've not been here pretty much since the new Iphone 3G came out, the reason being is a lost my 1st gen Iphone

Im back now because I'm thinking about going and getting the 3G version as my contract runs out soon.


I'm just after a bit of advice really on weather to or not, I think I more than likely will get one as I loved my 1st gen.

The main things that concern me is...


How good are the app store apps?
Is it really worth Pwning the 3G (why?)
Is it as easy as it was with the 1st gen?
What apps are on Installer/Cydia?


I appreciate all help and advice in advance.

-some are really good, some are pointless. you'll have to search through and find the ones you want.
-an unlock is coming soon, and this requires your phone to be pwned. benefits of pwning: ssh, cydia, install unauthorized apps, tweaks, etc.
-pwning? quickpwn makes everything easier, so long as you don't want much customization from pwnagetool. it's a simple, one-click solution like ziphone and iliberty from the pre-3G days.
-a lot of unauthorized apps for the app store end up on cydia/installer. some tweak the app store apps as well. for example, if you have fring, there's an app on cydia that allows skype to be used over a 3G/EDGE network (apple doesn't allow this). very useful.

There is absolutely no reason to believe that an unlock is coming sometime this week. The recent news released by the dev team is one step towards an unlock. The battle is far from won.

oops my bad. i meant that the unlock looks close, and the dev team's making progress towards it.

Ok guys, So I went out an got me a new iphone 3g

Quite happy with it although the GPS is quite random at working


Ive noticed that there arnt as many things on cydia and installer as the first gen, although there is quite alot. Id also say that cydia is now by far the best for apps that apple dont want running on there devices.

The battery seem to run out rather quick aswell(probably coz im never off it)

Overall im quite happy with it......Up to now any way.
