Hopefully I am in the right place, I have just purchased a 3G iPhone (i've had the 2G since launch in america which has eventually died)

Anywho, It was purchased on a 18mth contract and the person I brought it from has just got a upgrade to 3Gs.. It has never been unlocked but it looks ike they have recently (within the last week) restored it on Itunes to get rid of all his stuff.

So, My question is.. Do I need to check versions etc before i unlock it? If so How would I do so as its just sitting at the activation screen at the mo.

Then which is the 'best' method t use to start my unlock process?

yes you have to check the current status of your itunes, firmware etc before you unlock. You should upgrade fw before unlocking if necessary. Then you have to use cydia to jailbreak the phone.
