3G newbie needs help please
Hello all, I bought a 3G on ebay from a guy who told me the phone was never jailbroken or unlocked. This was his description:
"iPhone 3G black 8GB; gently used and in good condition
when iPhone turns on it says that it must be connected to iTunes; will not restore itself due to software issues.
we have not contacted apple to try to fix it"
I got the phone and all it will do is display the itunes cd and cable.
I thought I would be able to get it going again so I bought it.
I am not on an ATT contract.
I have not been able to figure this problem out. The more I research and read the more confused I get. I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me get it going again. Jailbroken and unlocked.
So I'll try and supply what info I can in the format suggested.
itunes version: 10.0.1.22
iphone os version: unknown
Platform: Windows
os version: XP sp3
detailed instructions to reproduce the problem: Well the best I can say is when I try and restore with itunes I get the "unknown error occurred (40)"
The only information I can find about the phone in itunes is the serial number. No software version info so I don't know what it was running.
So I don't know how repair the problem.
Here is the link to the itunes "restore log"

I sincerely appreciate any help I can get here with my problem.
I had an older iphone that was jailbroken and unlocked for a couple years until it got stolen. I really liked it and would love to have another.
Thanks again,

The only thing you could try is if you know someone with surface mount soldering skills that they could try to reflow the solder joints on the NAND chip.
