Apple, disgusted with outrageous service plans Rogers is forcing on Canadians, has decided not to sell the 3G iPhone in Apple Stores come July 11th.

According to an AppleInsider article, Apple wants no part in helping the carrier market the new handset to customers. Instead Rogers and Fido will be left alone to trick customers into steep 3-year contracts that require a minimum monthly payment of $60 for just 150 minutes, 75 text messages, and 400MB of data.

This information comes after an earlier report that Apple had decided to divert significant inventory from Canada to Europe as an initial punishment.

Rogers excessive rates have sparked a huge outcry in Canada where a petition at http://www.ruinediphone.com has already collected almost 50,000 signatures.

im pretty happy becuase rogers got what they deserved and im happy cause i paid 499$ for an iphone in the apple store of new york got it unlocked and everything and now it comes out in canada for 199$ asnd its improved so im happy for all the people in canada that said that the iphone sucks just becuase it wasnt sold in canada and now that it really isnt going to be sold im even more happy so good what goes around comes around!!!

the shipment that apple has diverted to europe was probably the iphones going to apple stores, but rogers is still providing iphones with a 3year contract but availablke in limited quantity

I am sure Rogers will suffer, when they will compare in month or so how many contracts other service provider has signed in US & Europe.

Rogers’s management team is consisting of armatures, they are trying to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs to get all the eggs at once.

If Rogers charge $30 for unlimited data plan, and there is already 50,000 people shown there interest of buying iphone on the pet ion signing website in Canada. Rogers will increase there revenue to $30 X 50.000 = 1.5 million per month in next few months just on iPhone data plan only with existing 3G network.

Bottom line is Rogers is greedy.

Hope Canada gets other GSM provider soon.

There is no "official" confirmation to this, but if you go to apple web site and click "where to buy" button on iPhone 2 page, for US it will show: Apple store and/or AT&T store. for Canada it would show only Rogers/Fido stores.

you can only buy the iPhone 3G from Apple stores in the US, outside the US you must buy from an authorized reseller or carrier.

since the announcement of the iphone.. the apple canada site always said that you can purchase it from rogers / fido locations (no mention of apple store)

I honestly urge people not to support Rogers buy getting an iPhone from them. Get one off eBay or something and then unlock it when the solution is there. Also spread the word and tell your frinds how their plans seem to be from the middle ages compared to the US carriers. That's the ONLY way to teach them a lesson.
