Default 3G iPhone, infinite reset loop after "reset all settings" cannot DFU or restore mode

Hi everyone. I have already done a search and followed the instructions people have given in similar cases, however my iPhone hasn't responded to them.

Basically I bought a 8GB 3G iPhone second hand. The seller told me it had software problems and what happened is he had the phone jailbroken and unlocked, then due to wanting to sell it he pressed "reset all settings". The phone did this and then got stuck in its current eternal reset loop. It trys to boot up but gets stuck on the Apple logo for a few minutes, then the spinning circle comes up and it restarts and gets stuck on the Apple logo again.

iTunes on OSX does NOT detect the phone at all.

The standard sollution I have read is to put the phone in recovery mody / DFU mode. However this phone is not responding at all to pushing the home/power button. Over and over Ive tried it for 10 seconds, for 5 seconds, I've even tried holding them for a minute. I've also tried holding the home button as I plug it in. It seems to not respond at all to this.

Apparently it was working perfectly fine before the reset all settings and apparently it only a software fault.

So how do I fix the phone? How can I get it in recovery mode? Or get iTunes to detect it?

Does it detect power (when you plug it into the computer does it start charging?)

Check the dock connector port for any damage/blockage.

Completely remove and reinstall iTunes Removing iTunes for Mac OS X

Check if the device is detected in System Profiler.

I also have this problem, although my home button and connection stopped working before I reset (purely due to software issues I believe).

The device doesn't appear in system profiler, is there any fix for this? Or any other way to get it into DFU mode?

I've looked all over google for a solution and can't find one, any help would be great. Currently my phone has run out of battery after being in the loop for hours, it now charges if i plug it into the mains or my macbook, once charged it just goes back into the loop and is unresponsive to any pressing of buttons. Also when connected to my macbook it doesnt appear in itunes or in system profiler even though it charges.

Again, any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

A few people have been successful in kicking the iPhone out of this method by using blackra1n this way:

    1) Plug iPhone into computer while it is doing the loop. It will not charge initially while the battery is draining.
    2) Run blackra1n with the phone still plugged in.
    3) Come back tomorrow morning.

This will allow the phone to discharge entirely, start getting a charge from the computer, and then get kicked back into phone mode by blackra1n during the boot. It's not 100%, it doesn't work for everyone in every instance, and it may not work for you -- but it has been successful in the past. I'd recommend giving it a shot.

Just to add to what is said above.
People have reported success with method described when they are using Windows XP

    Good luck
