Default 3G iphone 3.1 jailbroke w/blackrain-questions about updating?

    hi all
i have a 3g iphone with 3.1 fw that i used blackra1n to break, i want to update but am not sure if it is worth going to 3.13 to use spirit or just go to 3.12 and use blackra1n again. i have been reading that the spirit is better for phone speed but that also has some issues with cydia.
so im asking for some of your opinions / experiences with the spirit.

think 3.1.2 is better rather than 3.1.3.... at least 3.1.2 is still unlockable...
    cheers....

Spirit is fairly reliable, but ultimately, 3.1.3 is useless. There is no reason to upgrade to it. The other existing jailbreaks are more tested, have been around longer, and are easy to work with. 3.1.3 really only fixes one or two bugs and locks down the baseband again -- if you're not directly impacted by one of the bugs that it fixes (e.g., the battery life reporting issue) then there is absolutely no reason to upgrade to 3.1.3 at all. 3.1.2 will let you do anything you need to, you can get the app that fakes firmware 3.1.3 for any App Store apps, and you won't risk upgrading to a baseband that you can't unlock, and you won't have to deal with a new jailbreak -- you can use tried and tested tools that have been around for a good while.

That said, if you absolutely positively can't live without being on 3.1.3 (why?????), and you are using the iPhone on a legitimate carrier with a legitimate activated SIM, you can upgrade to 3.1.3 and use Spirit to jailbreak -- but you won't be able to unlock that baseband, and frankly, I can't stress enough that there is nearly zero benefit to 3.1.3 if 3.1.2 is an available option. The spirit jailbreak itself is fine -- there have been one or two reports of people getting spotty cell coverage afterwards, but nothing indicates that this is related to Spirit directly as it has only happened on an extremely small subset of users. Cydia works fine on Spirit so long as you follow the Spirit install process correctly, so there's nothing to worry about there.

I can't recall if Spirit does the afc2 service configuration, so you may have to add afc2add from Cydia to get root filesystem access again.

    Good luck!
