3G Diagnostics Screen

I was at the ATT store today trying to pick up my wife's iPhone and it had these screens on them. Sorry for the bad pics but I had very little time to see or handle to phone because the people at the store were being very protective of it.

Along the top of the screen it says iPhone OS and then the version number and then under that it says Burnin and then the version. On the screen of the first one it says "Drag to Unlock" and then under it there is a button that says "Shut Down". On the second one it is just a screen with a gear on it. Then the third one has 3 buttons, the first one says "Start Burnin", the second one says "Restart Test Environment" and then along the bottom is the "Shut Down" button. The guy at the counter couldn't figure out how to do anything with it but he did try and activate it and apparently it worked. He told me that it did activate, and we have that sim card back in my wifes phone. Well needless to say we didn't take it. We spent an hour and a half in the store trying to figure it out and he was on the phone with Apple. Finally we decided that we didn't want it, there were some other things that were wrong with it too. The back was dented scratched from the factory. So let me know if you have seen this and what they are for.

Hmm.. interessting, i'd have taken it. Lord knows when (or better if) someone will ever see such a phone again in the wild.

Customized screens with customize? That would be the simpliest answer.

Impossible. This phone was a brand new out of the box 8GB. So unless someone is playing tricks with new phones it is something from the factory. And its also not a hiphone, this was at the ATT store locally. And the phone activated on their systems, it just wouldn't do anything other than this.

Sounds like a diagnostic mode, just like iPods.
Hope you can get that one back, maybe it can
bring something new, or maybe not...

@mjohns930 - this is impossible with customize, unless it had a HUGE revamp

@Lost Soul™ - because of how Apple operates I doubt this will ever be seen in the wild

Try typing "diags" command in iPhone's iBoot shell when using iBooter. It returns a error complaining about missing memory image or something. Seems that in service centers they have some kind of diagnostic .ipsw , or this one present at pictures has gone through quality control.
