Hello I'm new here, i just jailbroke my iphone 3G 3.0, it went successful, then i downloaded ultrasn0w using cyndia, and installed it. how do i know its actually unlocked? I popped in my sim from my blackberry which has at&t unlimited all plan. only can make calls, text, thats all. no data services. I am wondering if it is supposed to work on unlocked iphone? or is that only for other carriers?

AT&T is an official carrier so it's going to work yes. To get data you have to setup the network settings. You can try to click "Reset" at the bottom of the Network screen, or input them manually if you find them online.

AFAIK, AT&T have a way of knowing when you're using an iPhone on their network and will automatically add the iPhone plan.

not neccessarly true about AT&T knowing and adding the data. Up until 3.0 beta 4, my BB sim with BES unlimited worked great in my iPhone. Once beta 5 of 3.0. It required a iPhone plan. Now this is just with my AT&T sims.

Now I have 3.1 beta 1 and I can again use my BB sim in my iPhone. All features are working including teathering and mms. Few tricks to get them to work, but all features functioning.

Where can I get 3.0 Beta Build 4 for original iphone?

I got the same issue as Walleye05. I unlocked my 3.0 3G iphone with ultrasn0w in hope to get around the at&t iphone data plan. I have a at&t sim from my blackjack II and I would like to keep that and do not change from the regular data plan to the iphone data plan.

What are my options? Upgrade the firmware to 3.1 beta 1? Can I upgrade the firmware in cydia or do I have to jailbreak and unlock everything again?

I dont think there is any point to unlocking an iPhone just to use an ATT Sim

afaict, you dont save any money on the $30 data plan for a Blackberry compared to the $30 iPhone plan on ATT, and adding unlimited text is another $20, so total $50 for text and data

With Tmobile USA you can get text and data for $20 a month

Tmobile saves you $30 a month compared to ATT, this is all in USA

the problem with Tmobile USA, is it cannot use the 3G network speeds, so the iphonespeedtest.com results I got, shows ATT downloads at over 500kbps, and Tmobile downloads at 200kpbs.. is it worth $30 a month to be more than half as slow? to me it is so far, I mostly use my iPhone on wifi, or put up with EDGE speeds when I must..

talk to me in dollars, what are you guys plan costs difference on ATT iPhone vs ATT on any other phone?

If you get the family plan (like I've got) it's 10$/mo for Unlimited txt and 6$/mo for EDGE on T-Mobile.

yes, I have Tzones for 5.99, but I dont see it available any more, now its called Tmobile Web, and costs $4.01 more

but like I said, EDGE is really much much slower than 3G on ATT

so, if you want a 3G phone, at 2G speeds, you can save $34.01 per month on Tmobile if you find you can still get the 5.99 internet plan..

I have the same issue. Unlocked my iphone 3G (from Japan) because I want to use it in the US with my old AT&T smart phone data plan and SIM.

Reasons for wanting to keep the old ATT data plan: no contract and unlimited international data (unlike the iphone plan)

Voice and texting work fine, but the iphone is now tellling me "no cellular data plan"......

Did you guys work out a fix for this? I am running 3.0 but might try upgrading to 3.0.1 and then re-jailbreaking and re-unlocking. Seems like that's what someone on this thread did...?
