Ziphone BSD ROOT Error, with a twist
Before you tell me to put iphone in DFU mode and restore, please read.
This iphone first generation was given to me after someone tried to use Ziphone, not sure what firmware it was at or what version of ziphone was used, but it's irrelevant at this point.
Phone boots into endless BSD root : md0, major 2, minor 0 loop and it is impossible to turn off phone in order to enter DFU
The phone simply does not respond to buttons being pressed.
So I let the phone battery die.
I tried all combinations of charging in AC/Laptop, holding home button, holding both, before it starts to power-up, as soon as it powers up, pretty much everything. The result is one constant behavior:
The phone starts to power up (the apple logo appears) for 1 minute or so, then BSD root : md0, major 2, minor 0 appears.
It is not recognized as being connected to PC/itunes
I then have to let it go until battery is dead.
Sleep/Wake button is not physically broken: When iphone is dead, and I press the button, it shows be the Red Battery logo for recharging.
I have JB/Unlocked many iphones, and know how to enter DFU, but have not come across this.
Suggestions?

Did you try upgrading to an official firmware through iTunes? If you can do that then you can pwn afterwards.
iPhone (OTB 1.1.1 / Currently 3.1)
Unlock, activation, jailbreak: PwnageTool 3.1
City Fido, Vancouver

I would love nothing more that to upgrade through itunes.
But like I said
1-Cannot enter DFU, keys do not respond, BSD root error until battery dies
2-iphone not seen by itunes.

have you tried holding home and power botton down att the same time, when you se the BSD root error ?
try that and hold untill the screen turns black, then you can go into recovery or DFU mode. it worked for me.
but before upgrade you should do a virginize. try restore to 1.0.2 if that are not working, then try 1.1.1
