Well you could tell them you took it out of the box and never got a chance to activate. I had a phone break on me during an unlock process and wouldn't turn on. I took it back to the apple store and they replaced it.

Let me say that I know some1 who had something similar happen, here's some advice from a successful experience:

    1. If you can't boot it, they can't. It's fried. (this happened from a 3rd party FM transmitter, don't ever use them)
    2. Tell them you just got the iphone and you plugged it into an old iPod dock from like 5 years ago and it fried while you waited for the new version of iTunes to install (the screen blurred, went white, never recovered) ... in other words, you never had a chance to sign up ... theres no reason for you to justify how old the iPhone is, say its a gift
    3. If they ask you to sign up there, tell them you're using your mother's credit card and have to wait until she gets out of work to talk to her.

    Does Apple blacklist phones?
Reason I ask is my wife accidentally upgraded to 1.1.1 before a jailbreak was available and took it to Apple where they explained to her it had been tampered with and therefore they were unable to help her even though she had a AT&T contract for over 6 years ( i didnt know she was gonna do this or I would have stopped her)
Anyway I downgraded to 1.0.2 till jailbreak was available!!!!
Would they have entered the phones info in their system? Cause its the same phone that Im gonna have to claim hasnt yet been activated in order to get an exchange!!!!

when you say blacklist, do you mean they block your PHONE service or they will deny all Apple iPhone related services such as warranty? I dont know how Apple can block you from using your phone on a phone network...

    totally agree,

if the phone wont power up, just go to apple store and ask for repair or a new one.
