Question Will the 749 EUR officially unlocked iPhone work with Rogers?

    2 questions...
Will the 749 EUR officially unlocked Orange iPhone work with any GSM provider outside of France?

Will its warranty be valid in other countries that sell the iPhone? ie... the U.S.?

You really should search before posting, but to answer your questions: NO on quesiton 1 and likely yes on 2. If you buy an official unlock the unlock itself is done with iTunes and iTunes apparently requires you to have a French iTunes account to carry out the activation/unlock. You cannot have a French iTunes account as far as I know without a French address (usually tied to or verified by credit/debit card or paypal). Someone suggested that using a prepaid iTunes card from France may work and you can just type in a fake address when registering, but that is not confirmed so I don't recommend spending a lot of money and having it not work.

As for warranty, I do not see why not. Apple warranties are worldwide and being that the unlock is official there's no grounds to deny service since you haven't violated any of its terms and conditions (i.e. modifying it with an un-official unlock). I'm sure when they look up the warranty on the computer it tells them if it's an official unlock or not. Cheers.

    Question

    Thanks for the response!
I searched but, I only got more confused when I read the two threads one being 7 pages... the other being 2...

Anyways there's this guy on ebay with 1000 EUR buyer protection.... selling an unlocked iPhone for 849 EUR and apparently unlocked for all operators... or GSM providers...
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MEWA:IT&ih=010

Even if this guy activated through his French iTunes account... would there still be some risk buying such an iPhone?

Could possessing an iPhone that is linked to his French iTunes account pose a problem?

he is not selling it for 849, it s the startin bid!

and if i were u, i would not pay 850 euro for that phone, because unless there will ve a specific firmware all the time for this iphone in ur country, u would always have problem everytime u do a restore or update, because it would be locked once again... but like i said i dont know if it s specific firmware only for unlocked iphone in ur country... or unlocked by codes... also prize for it is like double!, u can grab from online almost half the price unlocked from usa...

Question Is this what you mean?

    • There's the option to "buy it now" for 849 Euro.

    • and this phone is from the 46th week of production...

    • You're saying officially unlocked iPhones won't be able to update to future firmware without out be re-locked?

    • You're saying it cannot be restored if needed?

If thats what you're saying... can anyone verify if those statements are true?

What he's saying is that if for some reason you need to restore the phone, or when an update comes out in the future the phone will once again need to be activated/unlocked with iTunes. The unlocked model is permanently unlocked. Normal (locked) iPhones on AT&T or O2 do the same thing (need activated with iTunes in order for them to work after a restore or upgrade). However in your case not only would the unlocked model need activated again, but it need re-unlocked by iTunes which would be an issue if you're attempting to do this with a French iTunes account.

    Thumbs up

Okay again thanks for your responses...
and thanks for the clarification slim ...

Well... now after finding out about this French iTunes account shenanigans... there isn't really too much of a difference between using a unlocked iPhone from the U.S. or a French officially unlocked iPhone...lol
other than the friggin' price tage

That is if I use them in a country such as Canada... they both will have risk ahah :p

That's a lot to spend for an iPhone to use in Canada...why not just buy from eBay?? If it's unlocked and can be used worldwide, it should include Canada...but 749EUROS?!?! ahah...that's crazy!
