Why check for 4.06 bootloader when 04.01.13_G is confirmed on your iPhone?
As the title says itself, do we really have to go through the hassle of winSCP/putty/bbupdater-v to confirm if we have 4.06 bootloader or not? If I do the *3001#12345#* trick and confirm that I have 04.01.xx (firmware 1.1.1) than that should be enough to tell me I have the old bootloader. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have to unlock my uncle and aunt's BNIB iPhones tomorrow.

Because you can still have an old bootloader and new 1.1.2 firmware according to some people. However I myself have gotten 5 iPhones with 1.1.2 OTB with the new bootloader, not a single with an old one.
They keep saying to check it anyway, to be sure. Also note that you've bought the iPhones so you might aswell go through the hassle of downgrading to 1.0.2. and jailbreaking them as this is probably required anyway in the future (when the 4.x bootloader is open)

Yea but when I confirm that I have 04.01.xx (which means I have FW 1.1.1.) that means I have the OLD bootloader correct?
04.01.xx = FW 1.1.1. (only OLD bootloader are on these)
04.02.xx = FW 1.1.2. (only NEW bootloader are on these)
Right? So I don't have to bbupdater-v to check bootloader if I have confirmed 04.01.xx ???????

Yes. 04.01.13_G is with old bootloader. Period.

If this is true than thank you for your reply!

Bootloader isn't upgraded when you upgrade to 1.1.2 from lower firmware. only the baseband(modem firmware). so you can still have 4.02 with 1.1.1 with old bootloader.
so seeing 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 with 4.02 doesn't 100% mean its new bootloader.
