Default [WARINING]New iPhone might have tiff hole fixed.

A few days ago I jailbroken my iphone, activated it, and unlocked it on firmware 1.1.1

However, today [10/31/07] my brother got a new iPhone with 1.1.1 firmware.

I use the exact same process with his phone to unlock the phone, and tried all different jailbreak services available so far, restored the phone a couple times, and nothing works for me.

I tried http://www.slovix.com/touchfree/jb/ and http://jailbreakme.com and the old fashion method I used from the [Ultimate Guide], I even tried using iJailbreak in Mac to unlock it. None had any luck.

Especially when I'm using touchfree .6, it never get pass step2, always saying "Please visit the URL given in Safari on the Ipod first" even though I did that already. I tried in both WinXP (which is where i unlocked my iphone) and Vista, same error message, the computer doesn't seem to be able to connect to the phone.

When using the web method to unlock it, instead of restarting the phone, the phone starting ringing with an incoming call from "0", and I left it alone for 10-15 mins it is still rining and not restarting....

Now I've verified the firmware to be 1.1.1, and the modem firmware is 04.01.13_G. Both the same numbers as the phone I purchased 2-3 weeks ago and unlocked a few days back with 1 time success.

So, i'm asking, is anyone having the same problem running web jailbreak and have an incoming call instead of restarting iphone?

Could it be that apple has already secretly fixed the tiff hole?

If I were to downgrade it to 1.0.2, how should I unlock the phone?

Update[Nov. 1]: I was eventually able to jailbreak it by inserting an activated SIM card from AT&T. It seems that the web jailbreak way worked for me but only partially. The phone was jailbroken (got root access) after using it but it did not boot to springboard as expected. So I used an activated AT&T card to gain access to springboard and installed SSH from installer. Then everything is the same as usual.

*Note: I DID restore the phone a couple times using the 1.1.1 firmware I got for my previous iPhone unlock, so if this overwrites apple's whatever prevention measure on the new iphones, it should not account for this issue. What remain a question though, is why the new iPhone I unlocked did not unlock the way the old one would when I followed the exact procedure? If I were not to have an activated SIM card, it will take forever for me to find out it was a partial success. So tip of the day is, an activated SIM will make your life easier....

    Hey,

My boss just bought an iPhone yesterday - and I'm going to see if I can hack it for him tomorrow. What is the week # on your phone? If I run into the same problems i'll let you know.

First thing I would try, if I was in your position though, is try forcing the downgrade to 1.02. and jailbreaking / unlocking from there. I don't see how apple could fix the TIFF exploitation while keeping the firmware revision the same though, unless it's a newer version of safari.

Anyhow, I'm really interested in how this turns out for you. Let me know how it goes, and I'll let you know how mine goes tomorrow.

    Best of luck!

    L.

Mine has the same problem with the touchfree utility, however I downgrade to 1.0.2 and prepare to upgrade and works, mine have 1.1.1 right now, dont worry, must be a bug in the touchfree
Iphone 8Gb unlocked (3 of them, old versions all)
    Thanks Dev(dream) team

I've bought 4 iphones from apple and neither of them let me do the unlocking on 1.1.1 software. I am experienced in unlocking and this was the first time I've seen an iphone refusing to be unlocked. I had to downgrade them to 1.1.1, unlock and upgrade again..

I have had problems with Touchfree before.
It worked for some phones but not all.
Then, I switched carnaval and it works.
But I found that I had to do recovery before carnaval.
If you use carnaval, on step one, make sure you don't see this "Failed to open ..." line:

    (iPHUC) /: putjailbreak rdisk0s1 /dev/rdisk0s1
putjailbreak: Failed to open remote file: 8

If you see this line, just use iTunes to restore to original 1.1.1 and do carnaval again.
