most smartphones go to a "factory clean" state after a firmware update. most sony ericssons do this, for example

    Hi,

I unlicked about 5 iphones using the iunlock comand (not anysim or IPSF). One of my friends updated by mistake even though he is stilll using it with At&t and his phone is useless now. So what happens now?

Has anyone tried to force reflash the older baseband firmware over the newer one? I recall doing 1.00 over a 1.02 doesn't work. But has anyone tried this yet?

bbupdater is not, ultimately, the arbiter about whether the update takes place. It does have some sanity checks in place, but ultimately the existing "baseband" decides whether to accept the new version that bbupdater has fed it. And (for very good reasons) it doesn't allow a downgrade to happen. Doing so could be disastrous if locations and structures in EEPROM (describing the current state) were changed.

On the other hand, the IPSF exploit makes use of the special case when the version is NULLed out.

Hi guys, from Malaysia here. Well, not really understand about the FW1.1.1. One question. If we update to FW1.1.1, then we got the latest function on the phone, then we downgrade again and unlock it. So, meaning that we have the latest fucntion on FW1.0.2. Correct?? Is this possible?

    Thanks

Don't update, resist the urge. Take a walk, sing a song or twiddle your thumbs but AVOID THE 1.1.1 UPDATE unless you really feel like having fun fighting issues until the iPhone Dev team releases a new round of updates and how-to's.

    NO,
you get 1.0.2 firmware & functions
you get 1.1.1 baseband (no unlock for other SIMs)

So your iphone is only an itouch at the moment if you use 1.1.1
