-can i do this from installer or do i have to use itunes

    what method is the safest/easiest?

    You can jump in here

at step 14. Just make sure to have BSD Subsystem installed.

The tutorial is for another issue, but the same for you, if you begin at Step 14 post #1.

Dont update your Installer if it wants to. At 1.0.2 we have seen issues with the actual one.

ok thanks for that, at 19 where it says about restoring to 114, is that with shift-restore or just restore to the stock 114 already in itunes? and whats the difference between "setup as new phone", not "from backup"

just to be sure before i do it!

I would always shift-restore. Imagine the minute you just do restore and Apple would have a new firmware. You would get that on your iPhone and will probably locked. To me it's a safety thing. I have all firmware versions on my PC and only do shift-restores. (or Option-Restores on a Mac).

If you choose "from backup" iTunes will send back a lot of preference files from your old 1.0.2 iPhone. Cause in between 1.0.2 and 1.1.4 a lot changed, like user "mobile" fils structure etc. So this would lead to problems.

"Setup as a new iPhone" basicall does what it says: You have a new iphone - clean. After that you sync back your adresses, cal items, music, videos etc. The only stuff you have to re-enter is things like your cities in Weather, your Stocks, known Wi-Fi hotspots. Lost is call history, SMSses etc. It no big deal. I'd always go for a fresh iPhone.

    Hope that helps,

hope anybody could advise and help me..
    i got a 1.12 FW4.02 (orig from 1.0.2 JB and unlock to 1.1.1 - 1.1.2)
    planning to upgrade to 1.1.4
have read many post here to "virginize" 1st before restoring and upgrading, since my installer have been updated to 3.11, i dont have the"unlocking tools " on my installer, and being a computer noob, having a hard time understanding on how to ssh the "virginizer pack" to my iphone, but i have the "hackthatiphone" source and under it have "baseband downgrader#1, #2,#3" on my installer.
    Questions:
    1. is this the same with virginizer pack?
    2. if it is, which # should i install?
    3. if not, is there any other simple way to get virginizer pack?
    4. if ever i can get virginizer pack, which should i do 1st? virginize then downgrade? or any way will do?
    5. should i downgrade to 1.0.2? or 1.1.1 ?

    sorry for so many questions,
    hoping for your advise..
    thanks

If the iPhone is now on 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 and unlocked, the owner who used to have it before did virginize it. You can straight restore to 1.1.4 and use iLiberty or Pwnage then to jailbreak, activate, unlock.

Virginizing is only important if you are still at 1.0.2 and unlocked with AnySIM 1.0.2, or from that state accidentially upgraded to 1.1.4.

    hope that helps
