Default US V1.1.1 and Official Orange Unlock.

I have a US v1.1.1 iphone which is already unlocked with anysim. If I go to France, to orange, and give them 100e will they unlock it officially?

Why? They will see that it is not bought from them?

well i dont thik they would... but i do think that it would be a good idea for them if you were to go on the orange contract...since you paid for the phone.. you are also paying for the unlock and you are going on the 2 year term or whatever the term is.. so the way i look at it they dont lose anything.. however as noted in other posts... they DO NOT want to unlock anything.. so i doubt that they will do it
im in the same boat.. well kinda.. im in Canada and the iphone is suppose to be out sometime soon... and im already on the rogers contract so to me paying another whatever it is to get unlimited data is really not a big deal at all... so if they were to unlock if for me oficially so i can use updates without any problem i would pay for it and go on a contract

NO. The unlock is IMEI based and solely controlled by APPLE, not Orange or T-Mobile or O2.
You also would need to be a customer with a FRENCH iPhone, then you could do it.
To be a customer with a french iPhone, you need to be a french citizien or foreign national with a french residency permit (special photo id).
Same applies if you want to buy an unlocked iPhone from them without a contract.

I am a europian citizen. This is against the law. I can go and buy something from everywhere I want in the EU. Why should I be French? This is racism.

There is a debate going on in these boards about what is required to purchase a French unlocked iPhone without any service contract.

Orange France's website suggests that you shouldn't "forget" to bring identification and bank details (or a bank card) when you go to get your iPhone. The website does NOT say that you have to be French to purchase the iPhone, or that your documents must indicate that you are a French citizen or resident.

Some of us believe that these "restrictions" mainly apply to the majority of the iPhone sales that Orange France will conduct, where a credit check needs to be made before they will let someone purchase a service plan (i.e., to get their cell phone service through Orange France). For those wishing to simply purchase the iPhone without any contract obligation (for a €649 price), several of us believe that the identification/bank details are not relevant, and won't be required.

(To get the iPhone unlocked immediately, though, you'll have to pay an additional €100 fee, or you can wait 6 months and have Orange France unlock your phone for free).

In my humble opinion, under no circumstances will these terms or offers apply to iPhones purchased from other countries -- the French law applies to French sellers of locked cell phones. So you can't bring your O2 or ATT iPhone into France and demand an unlock. You'll have to take up your fight to get an unlock from your own domestic provider.

As to the debate over what documents will be required/not required, that will be solved beginning at approximately 18:30 CET today.

This is the other side of the debate, and you have to respect 997TT's opinion, even though I disagree with it. Thus, exercise caution, and wait and see what happens.
