Default Unlocking UK iPhone's on the 9th November?

    Hey,

Will it be possible to unlock the UK iPhones using the same methods posted here, or will additional work be needed? I plan on getting one on launch day for use on Orange UK.

Can I just download Carnaval then AnySIM and *boom*?

    Cheers

I'm keen for this as well, the UK firmware will fix a lot of problems I've been having with SMS messages and voice mail alerts!

Because in the UK, SMS from alphanumeric senders is very commonplace, that is messages actually comming from "T-MOBILE" or "MOBIBANK" and not a number, which is perfectly acceptable in the SMS specification. There is no way O2 would allow the phone to be used on its network without supporting this, customers would riot, no-one would be able to use banking services, receive promotional SMS, it would be chaos.

Will 02 be doing the same as At&t in respect that you go into store buy iphone at 269 and then after activate it?

They have put a restriction on 2 per person either on 02.co.uk or to buy on apple.co.uk surely you cannot buy from apple.co.uk and set up the 02 contract on the apple website?

isn't the UK firmware supposed to be 1.1.2??

my guess is that apple will not fix the sms issue...i'm not in the UK but i am able to recive all Name (Vodaphone, citibank...) notification meaning they might make o2 change the way they send these sms.

if however they do fix it then the 1.0.2 update will be accompnied by a new BB, which would mean a new unlock in addition to a new jailbreak/activation will be required

Default o2 UK Firmware on a ATT US phone

i would imagine that a new firmware will be released and the BB updates to prevent, jailbreaking, activation and unlocking.

if not happy days. What im waiting for is to be able to use the O2 firmware and use on my US phone i have unlocked.

hopefully it will then be UK specific on settings etc!

it would be intresting to see how apple would determine who is to get what firmware...maybe the uk iphone will have uk imei's and itunes and the update software will check the imei before downloading/updating your phone...

maybe we'll finally findout what the rest of the minicom output means

So apparently there's going to be an iTunes 7.5 before it. Also yeah, rumour has it there will be a new firmware. That's a bummer. I just hope that if the existing solutions don't work, a solution will be out soon after.

I am using it in UK and have no problem with SMS using an o2 card...
Riot??CHAOS??? Man it is just a phone!! It is not a Blackberry or a Windows Mobile device. It is not a corporate solution.
Not having copy&paste, not having useful Bluetooth or having to use an extension to use my L-plug expensive iphones really irritates me. Coming from "the most advanced, revolutionary phone..blah,blah,blah..."

And for this thread just wait till the 10th of November....or 11th...or following week.It is not that you are going to die if you don't get an iphone themoment they are out.
