Default Unlocking after 1.1.1 is released?

    Hi everyone,

I'll be getting my iphone in a few days. It's the 4gb version and I presume that it has the old 1.0.2 firmware installed. As I understand, when I want to unlock it I have to connect to Itunes. Doesn't Itunes then try to install version 1.1.1 of the firmware (assuming apple releases it in a few days)? Is there anyway around this if I have a phone with 1.0.2 installed but want to unlock it? Or do I have to now wait (maybe forever) before I can try an unlock?

    Thanks guys!

Ok, so when I do one of the first steps in the unlock process, which is to restore the phone in Itunes, it won't try to install 1.1.1?

    Thanks

If you have firmware 1.0.2 you dont have to initiate restore process. Just connect your phone once to iTunes and than follow your guide for unlocking. And you can always use downloaded firmware files from the links in this forum.

That's something I'd really like to know, too.
I'll probably get the 4 Gb version pretty soon, as well.
I deactivated automatic updates in iTunes.

But is there any way to check what firmware version is going to be used by iTunes?

I don't know what is computer you using, but on Mac machine you can located file in <User>/Library/iTunes/iPhones Software updates and for version 1.0.2 it's should be iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw. I think for Windows machine its something very simillar like <drive>:\Program files\iTunes.....

So Itunes will *always* use the firmware in that location? So if a user chooses to 'Restore' it will always the use the fimrware file located there?

People seem worried that it will download v 1.1.1 and use that - it sounds like thats not the case and it will use the firmware on your hard disk

    Thanks .
    I'm using a Mac.
Well, I haven't gotten an iPhone yet, so that's probably why there is no such folder yet ^_

Once you using restore than you have all those files in your machine. But be careful since Apple promice update by the end of the week. And it's posible you will download a new firmware instead of 1.0.2. I read on somewere that you can do manual update and install all files manualy. So, good luck.

Ive posted this but i guess you guys could also help me out with this one...

Lets say someone buys an iphone today with firmware 1.01 . Ive read that u need fw 1.02 in order for the hacks and unlock to work. If apple releases fw1.1.1 the older firmware (1.02) wont be available anymore on itunes. How can u unlock and/or hack your iphone (fw1.01) if fw 1.02 is no longer available and you r stuck with fw 1.0.1?
I guess the only remedy for this would be changing from 1.01 to 1.02 without using iTunes. Is that possible???????
