Hi every body,
Here is the info :
- 399 € with orange plan (24 months at 49 euros)
then after 6 montrh 100€ unlocking fees if you want (anyway after you need a plan with data and there is no real competitor or it is not full compliant (voice mail, http port different than 80 are bloacked etc...)
- 649 € unlocked
To answer to "deepsouth" : orange sells to iphone with plan only to french (with proofs like ID Card Visa card etc), if you are not french you can buy an unlocked one at 649.
BUT there is a trick : till yesterday itune reconize french sim cards even in US iphone 1.1.2 OOB and does not blocked ite. The tricks is to use a 5 euros french repaid sim card and you can play a lot with it and analyse the process.
I feel there is a trick with this.
Another info, there is a know bug with the keyboard, Apple will be obliged to update firmware for french customer and german customer (there is another bug on the Operator list managed buy the simlock system). So the door is going to be opened soon i think.

Hi rikbcn,
I'm thinking about asking a friend who lives in Paris to buy me two unlocked iPhones. So, as you said, he can go to any of the authorized shops, pay 649 Eur x 2, bring me the iPhones and I can use my SIMs to activate and use normaly in my country?
Are there any additional fees ou tricks? Just wondering if I'd have to pay the 100 Eur unlock fee (probably not since it already costs 649) and if iTunes will give me the option to unlock.
Thanks for any info you can give.
Cheers.

The reallity is this (since yesterday nigth).
You take your 'UK' or US iphone (it is the same anyway), you go to france you put a french sim card, itune says ok and tells you that it is better to take an orange plan.
And it fully works.
Orange wants to retrieve customers who bough US iphone and unlocked it. It is a win win plan for apple and orange and customer :
- Apple earns 15 € a month on these imported iphone (Around 6 000 in france)
- Orange earns 35 € a month
- Customer bougth there iphone 399 $ instead of 399 € (saving something like 100 €)
That means tiull yesterday night itune reconize french sim cards and does not blocked it

I live in paris.
It is possible the fucking trouble is that transport costs a lot and custom put the taxe when it arrives in your country.
I importer from us and you pay the tax when you buy it, the transport, the tax when it arrives and you can be robbed (i have been robbed one iphone).
You pay fees also on money tranfert (to pay the guy who buy it in a shop)....
even with paypal. it is possible but put all in excel and at the end it costs.
But with UPS and paying an insurance it is possible

Anyone tried to put a SIM from another country in into the iPhone after this procedure?
Would be great to know if it's totally unlocked for all SIM cards.

As i understood when you buy unlocked it in shop, you pay nothing more but itune connect to apple server and ask for unlocking certificate and load it on your iphone.
It is a supposition it started yesterday,

For an 1.1.2 OOB (locked) it is going to works only with the sim from ATT, O2, T-Mobile Germany, Orange France.
But for 649€ it will works with any sim.
Almost has apple made some bugs with operator list in the baseband. It is the reason some germans complains (some carrier are not supported, i don't know why).
What is sure is : apple is going to open the door soon to make it works, as they tested till now only with att, (purhaps with 02, and orange) but it is not enough sure ... that means apple is going to face compatibility trouble soon, then firmware will be upgraded soon (it remains a supposition)

I wouldn't hold my breath just yet since the bugs (if there are any) have reportedly been found just recently. It would take them a while (maybe weeks/months nobody really knows) to fix them and to TEST them before making them available to the public.
Don't get me wrong though, I would kill to get my iPhone unlocked. But I guess I'll just go ahead and order a TurboSim. I'm sick of having a camera iPod touch lol

This is the post from Orange
France Telecom just announced that the iPhone will go on sale tonight at 6:30pm (18.30) at a dozen of its Orange stores across France. It will charge between €49 ($72) and €119 ($175) per month in addition to the €399 cost of the iPhone itself. Orange customers can unlock their iPhone for another €100 on the spot or free after 6 months -- though they're still locked into an Orange contract of 1 or 2 years. The iPhone will also be sold unlocked contract free for €649 ($957) or €549 ($809) with an Orange plan without a time commitment. Got it? Yeah, we're a bit confused too, but then again, it's definitely cheaper than the unlocked German iPhone.

turbo sim is a good deal at the end (depends where you live).
I'am going to take a trace between sim and baseband to understand something ... (I don't understand how apple has coded such a back door when reading the IMSI ...)
taking a plan with official carrier too, i spent hours to put proxy, ipop and looking for data plan etc ... at the end iphone traffic a lot on many different port etc ... having official voice mail and the car button activated on google map too....
