Default Unlocked French iPhone and SIM cards

    OK

Official test today - only tried one SIM - Greek SIM.

    Officially Unlocked French iPhone:

Put in test SIM from Greece. Acquires Network ( I am in Germany ) - Yes
    SMS received - Yes
    Call received - Yes

HOWEVER - the issue is this. The SMS and Phone App crash on launch until iWorld is run and Greece is selected. Once iWorld is run, no crashing, and test cases run as before.

SO basically this talk of Orange only unlocking the iPhone for French Operators is that : Bullshit.

Please propagate this message as the mainstream press have picked up the wrong issue.

The real issue is that the config of shipping iPhones is missing information causing the phone to crash.

Apple need to fix this bug for French Users. I will report this as a bug to Apple but of course they know it.

You need to Jailbreak the phone and part of this process gets you the Installer App, which allows a one click install of this.

    Jailbreaking is the hard part.

I suspect a fix is coming sooner rather than later....

Check your phone bill, maybe you are being charged for roaming. From what I read, they charge you roaming rate when a foreign SIM is used therefore not "unlocked".

    Ummm. No.

Once the Orange SIM is out of the phone, Orange have nothing to do with the bill. You are no longer roaming, but on that particular countries rate plan, which is recognized by the SIM's MSISDN.

Again, the Orange France phone IS 100% unlocked, but a software bug disallows the use of SMS and Phones applications. iWorld is a workaround while Apple and Orange decide when to either fix the bug, or withdraw the 100 euro charge or answer to the French telecommunications regulator.

    OK, Great.
I downgraded to 1.1.1, jailbreaked it, upgraded to 1.1.2, jailbreaked and installed Iworld.
Everything works well now. Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi Kevin!
I have the same problem that you reported: Unlocked iphone bought in france but SMS and Phone app crash.
Can you point me to a newbie tutorial to install iWorld? I saw that i need to downgrade-jailbreak but im affraid that the processs would eventually lock me iphone. Or is it safe to jailbreakit? Or maybe a software update can come out any time soon by Apple to solve this. After all, is their bug.

    Thank you

    btw: my firmware is 04.02.13_G

Recently I bought a unlocked iPhone in France (649 euros), but my own sim-card dosen`t work. It just says "Invalid sim"

I have read that I might have to pay 100 euros to get it unocked. Where can I do this? What do I have to do?

    Thank you!

    Hi

I believe jailbreaking is OK, it does not touch the baseband software, it just allows cracking the lockdown to allow software access.

My French iphone is jailbroken now for 3 weeks with no problems.

You need to pick a recent tutorial to downgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak, install OKTOPREP, Upgrade back to 1.1.2 and use 1.1.2 jailbreak tool to jailbreak again. That leaves phone with Installed app which them allows a one click install of iWorld.

Note that the 1.1.1 software does not function with the phones software from 1.1.2, so you have to use WiFi to get stuff on.

Once you install iWorld, you use their menu system to select the country your SIM is from and Voila, you are in business.

So a future update: you can always do a full restore of 1.1.2, which will kill the jaillbreak etc and then upgrade. BUT, make sure that the bug is fixed!

I have done several restores and it seems to reinstall personal photos etc as long as you sync the phone before doing a restore.

Another note, UPGRADE from 1.1.1 not Restore when you are in the jailbreak.

I myself sat down and studied various guides to jailbreaking, and had several at hand when I did it.

    It is not complex.

    Hi

You need to buy a prepaid card in France with 100 Euros credit. *an orange prepaid card :-)

You then phone service client and ask for deblocquage. They take credit off card and your IMEI. They tell you a letter will come in 1 week. The letter is just a reminder to connect iphone to itunes. I paid Wednesday, phone was unblocked Friday.

I restarted phone, connected to iphones and I got a page saying "Phone Unlocked" or words to that effect.

If your SIM is not from the released countries you need to jailbreak and add iWorld.

With any SIMs the SMS and Phone just crash so you cannot use phone functions. But the phone is unlocked - you will get texts etc but you cannot read them due to these crashes.

Apple are very busy along with some moderator stooges spreading incorrect facts on their iphone forum. Certain high ranking posters/wankers are telling people the French phone is not unlocked. It is. It is the crashing issue that you need to get around.

Apple is also deleting all threads relating to the Orange France Issue.

If you can speak french log a call with Apple France.
