Default Unlock/ Jailbreak Apple Repaired Iph??

    Feb 7
    Hello
I have recently received a different repaired Iphone from Apple (serial 7U728) because of a battery short in original iphone (serial 7S728).

    I did the Call *3001#12345#*
and it says I have firmware 04.03.13_G (which seems to be 1.1.3).

I do NOT know whether I have the original 3.9 Bootloader or If Apple repair also upgraded the BL to 4.6? Is there a way to tell which BL ?

Then Is it possible to restore this phone back to say 1.1.1 & unlock/jailbreak it?

what method would you recommend as most reliable?

    many thanks
    drjazz

Install BBInfo (look for it over the net. You'll find what you need).

Also, please follow the forum rules when creating new threads next time (there's a sticky thread about it in the first page).

    Apple
    sucks.
    Microsoft rules.

    TurboSIM-like methods? No way.

    - Unlocked Week 47 1.1.3 iPhone, baseband 04.04.05_G.
    - Bought in Minneapolis, MN;
    - Currently on TIM carrier.

I'm not here to find help. I'm here to help others and give back what I've learned from Hackint0sh.

    Hello Cortex
thanks for your reply. Im not sure you understood my orig post. The iphone I received back from Apple is NOT my original Iphone but a replacement which they put 1.1.3 firmware on. The phone has NOT yet been jailbroken nor hacked

I did NOT see a sticky here which specifically addresses phone replaced by Apple under warranty. Ill be glad to write one when I have enough experience & info

The real question is about the Bootloader. Is the bootloader software in ROM which does NOT get upgraded by Apple when the repair/replace a phone? If it is a ROM and still a week 28 phone with 3.9 BL, then I can probably follow a sticky and down grade to fw 1.1.1 and jailbreak activate and maybe unlock.

If the BL is .4.6 then I have a wifi Ipod with no phone facility

So can anyone comment on whether the bootloader is a ROM software which can not be reflashed by Apple and whether they think my "replaced" phone is 3.9 BL
    many thanks

I didn't say anything about a sticky that addresses your issue. What I meant to say is that you didn't follow the forum rules when it comes to creating new threads. There's a specific thread title format that should be followed. Check: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20853

Yes, you can reflash the bootloader (this has been exposed several times on this forum, and if use the search function, you'll find it.). Refurbished iPhones were found containing the new bootloader (4.6). You should also check the Hardware Downgrade method for 1.1.2 OTB iPhones.

If your phone came with 04.03.13_G, then you have a good chance it has the 4.6 bootloader. No one can say that for sure until you check it.

    Good luck.

Default [1.1.3] IPH warranty replaced by Apple

    Hello Cort-X7,
thanks for the useful info. I did more research and yes the Bootloader is an EEPROM
so it is possible that Apple changed the BL to 4.6 when they installed the 04.03.13_G that was on this "replacement" week 28 phone.

In which case I am out of luck for now in using this as an Phone but it seems I can downgrade it to 1.1.1, jailbreak it to find out what BL it has?

If it has 4.6 ,Ill have to use it as a wifi Ipod. If however It has Bootloader 3.9 then I might be able to unlock it?

Am I correct ? Also would you advise waiting until the SDK is released by Apple
to see if any hack is subsequently developed to jailbreak & unlock a 1.1.3 phone with BL 4.6 ?

    many thanks
    drjazz

Default [1.1.3] How 2 unlock refurbed iphone

    Hello
thanks again to cort-X7 for alerting me that the refurbed phone (8GB) I recently received from Apple(warranty exchange) , probably had the latest 1.1.3 firmware and 4.6 bootloader . It did indeed. So you can essential consider such a refurbed iphone , essentially a new OTB 1.1.3

With this in mind I followed the steps for the Unlock at
    http://iphone.unlock.no/OTB112unlock.htm
    (great instructions from GEOHOTS methods!!)

After restoring downing to 1.1.1 firmware ,one caveate ,before you do the part about putting i.unlock.no into the contacts as a new URL make sure your Iphone is plugged into the PC usb port and Itunes is running. Otherwise the jailbreak will NOT work. I used Itunes 7.5 & Windows XP SP2.

My refurbed Iphone is now jailbroken and unlocked at 1.1.2 You can also use the installer now one the Iphone to upgrade & unlock to 1.1.3 but I am waiting a while to see if there are any problems
best of luck to other refurbed iphone owners
    drjazz
