Default To unlock in Belgium an OOB 1.02, upgrade first?

    Hi

Someone will bring me a new iphone from New York, he cannot tell me if it is a OOB 1.1.1 or a OOB 1.0.2, he bougth it yesterday.

if it is a OOB 1.0.2 should I ask him to upgrade from the US before coming back to Belgium?

+ can we unlock iphone once it has left US?

    Thanks guys

    Chebzitouni from Brussels, Belgium

It will most probably be a 1.1.1, as there are almost no 1.0.2s anymore for sale.
You should be able to unlock it using the guides on this forum. Doesn't matter what country you do that in.
And that will make yet another iPhone in Belgium

    Cool !

Can we use the Wifi to go VOIP with a SIP operator? Do we need a simcard in it to use that Wifi?

Your friend can see it on the serial# on the box of the iPhone.

    if the serial number's digits 4 & 5 are higher than 39 it's certainly a 1.1.1
    if the digits are lower than 39, eg.38 it's a 1.0.2
39 is a grey zone, can be both

You can use wifi without sim in it.

    I had a 1.1.1 out of the box (04.01.13_G)

    what I did:

    I downgraded to 1.0.2 (with iTunes 7.3.2.6)
    Then I installed installer.app (v0.92)
    Then I used PACAY
Finally I used iBrickr (v0.91) to move some files from lockdwn.zip and youtube.zip
(normally PACAY does this automatically, but I had to do this)

I didn't unlock it yet.(I want to find the best way to do it, without skrewing things up)

So after the previous steps, my phone was like an iTouch,
I changed some settings and I was able to surf the web over wifi.

If you receive your phone and you have a 1.1.1, don't downgrade, there are easier ways now to jailbreak/activate and unlock.

    Thank you Tego and Keith

I am very excited to wait for this marvel of techno and design..

I think I will unlock it first then try to make my Voip account work as well..

Has anyone have used Vonage or another Voip provider??
