Unlock 1.1.1 using Jailbreakme
Alright, first off... this guide is only for brand new out of the box v1.1.1 iPhone's.
If you wish to upgrade to 1.1.1 from 1.0.2 you'll need to follow THIS guide first.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Major Edit: You no longer need a PC or Mac in this process whatsoever, only your iPhone.
~Thanks c0caine
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Files you'll need:
None!
Other things you'll need:
1. Working WIFI network you have access to with your iPhone
2. Able to follow instructions
Steps to the unlock process:
1. Jailbreak through Jailbreakme
2. Unlock via anySIM
Side note before you begin, some people encounter problems with jailbreakme, this seems to be due to not having a clean 1.1.1 from 1.0.2 upgrades, if you haven't done so already, I'd recommend doing a full restore in iTunes from disk mode on the iPhone (booting while holding Power + Home buttons) before beginning this process.
Step 1.
- From the activation screen on your iPhone, slide the slider to make an emergency call.
- Dial *#307# hit call.
- Phone will begin to ring, Erase the *#307#, Dial 0, hit call.
- Now you'll be able to answer the call.
- Place call on hold
- Decline the second call.
You'll now be somewhat into the phone.
- Select the contacts tab on the bottom.
- Add a new contact, any name will do.
- Add URL for contact, enter prefs://
- Save contact and tap on their homepage.
You'll now be at the settings menu.
- Goto the General settings, set auto-lock to Never
- Go back, and select WIFI, turn it on and connect to your network.
- Wait for the WIFI symbol to show up at the top of your screen and then turn off the phone.
- Turn it back on and repeat the initial steps to get to the contacts list.
Time to Jailbreak.
- Add a new contact or edit the first one.
- Set the URL for contact's homepage to http://jailbreakme.com
- Save and open the website.
- Scroll down to the bottom and install appsnap.
- Safari should dissapear and you'll be back at the Activation screen.
- Slide for an emergency call and let the phone sit at the dial pad screen.
- Anywhere from 20 seconds to 5 minutes later the phone will begin to ring.
- Answer the call, and now you can turn off the phone, turn it back on.
Freedom!
Step 2.
- Slide to unlock.
- Open Installer by tapping on it from your newly accessible Springboard.
- It'll ask you to update, hit yes.
- Press Home when that finishes and re-open Installer.
- Select the Sources tab on the bottom.
- In the top right select Edit then press Add in the top left.
- Enter http://iphone.blurgle.ca/repo and then hit OK.
Installer will then update the sources.
- Tap on System within the Install tab.
- Select anySIM and then hit Install.
- Once finished installing hit the Home button and slide to unlock.
- Insert your provider's sim card into the iPhone at this time if it's not already in it.
Note: based on the comments, it might be required to install BSD Subsystem from the Installer for this to work. Do so if you find you're having difficulties at this stage.
- anySIM should now be on your springboard, open it, slide it, read it, and scroll down to the red button.
- Press the red button.
- Wait awhile and BINGO! your iPhone is unlocked.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extra Steps and Recommendations:
Now that you've unlocked your phone, you might want to remove that pesky anySIM icon from Springboard, to do this you'll have to log back into your iPhone through WinSCP back to the Applications folder and delete anySIM.app, and it'll be gone the next time you restart your iPhone. Summerboard is a cool app you can get through installer to add themes or skip the last row of icons to make your iPhone look more clean.
YouTube:
To get YouTube working, you'll need to download these 3 files from http://rapid-hare.com/files/58461644/youtube.zip.html : replace "-" with "s" (kudos to vomer for having the link) and upload/overwrite them to /var/root/Library/Lockdown/ . This can be done by installing BSD Subsystem and openSSH on your iPhone, then connecting to it via an application such as WinSCP.
Upgraded from 1.0.2:
You can now connect your iPhone back up to iTunes to restore all of your contacts, etc...

Just a tip to your very nice guide, with prefs:// it's enough, 1F was an indication in a post regarding the mispelling on preffs:// (1F, indicating one 'f')

Instead of doing it the hard way, why not just add a source that comes with Anysim?
Simply open up Installer.app go to Sources and push Edit and then Add. Now add the Source http://iphone.blurgle.ca/repo
Reload the Sources and now youll find AnySim under System!
No messing with SSH or BSD Subsystem or anything, use whats already on your iPhone!
Oh yeah and it works perfectly with a virginized 1.0.2 iPhone

then just followed you guide
and i now have a FULLY sim unlocked 1.1.1 phone!!!
Thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS. Got youtube working -
I had to stop the processes AppleMobileDeviceService.exe, AppleMobileDeviceService.exe,iTunesHelper.exe, and Ipodservice.exe
with the link ^^^^^^^(In the guide)
patch the lockdown files to private/var/root/library/lockdown with WinScp

The furtherest i have gotten is to the jailbreakme.com on the iphone i pressed install appsnap 15 sec later safrai crashed as was expeced, my phone rang i slide the slider to answer the call the phone froze as expected. Turned it on and off now the phone just sits at the activate iphone screen and doesnt give me access to springboard. Have tried the procedure several times, when i click on install appsnap it opens a new window in safari and just hangs there.
I had my vodafone sim in the phone while doing this procedure would that make a difference?

Yeah the first time it worked at the first time but then y restored and did it again and i didn't got the 1 calling until like the 8th time and then i didn't had to use anysim cause i think it was still there even i restored... that's weird

Thanks for the change to prefs:// I wasn't aware of that, and as for the jailbreakme method not working, I've found that it seems to be occurring with people upgrading from 1.0.2 who either updated, or didn't do a complete restore.
I haven't found anyone who did a full restore to 1.1.1 from 1.0.2 who's had any issues.
Also need to confirm that source works for adding anySIM, if so, it'll make this guide even simpler than it already is
