Yes, I searched what I thought would be easy answers to find, apparently are not.

Question 1: I should have the SIM card I want to use in my phone through out the whole upgrade downgrade re-upgrade/unlock procedure right? In other words there is no time that it needs to be out is there? Does it matter?

Question 2: I did said process and anySIM 1.2.1u "successfully" unlocked my phone, yet I still get the incorrect SIM message along with no service. I was told that I need to patch the lockdownd file. Isn't the lockdownd process only for people who have the new bootloader that comes with new 1.1.2 OTB phones?

Question 1: I don't think it matters what SIM is in your iPhone while you're upgrading/downgrading, but I think the preference is to have the SIM you want to use in the iPhone when running the unlock procedure itself.

Question 2: Everyone needs that patched lockdownd file on 1.1.2! (Well, everyone who is trying to hack their phone, that is). Remember, the iPhone has several layers of security: one is the SIM-lock, and the other is the activation process. The patched lockdownd file tells the iPhone that it is "factory-activated" and thus doesn't need to go through iTunes (or some other program) to activate each new SIM. Get this file. Use it. It is a blessing.

That brings my second problem. I don't understand how to use the patched lockdownd file and the only place I can find it is on google code and its not a file it just says a bunch of hex.

I also don't understand the imei issue of 0049xxxxx. All I know is that it's bad and that I have it. What is it stopping me from doing?

I'll try and track down a source for the patched lockdownd file later.

I've never had the bad IMEI number issue, but I believe (and you should check) that you need to virginize your iPhone and then go through the unlock process again.

To test this, you will need SSH access to your phone (which you should have if you are reading this), then do the following:

1. Log into your phone via ssh.
2. Navigate to /usr/libexec/
3. Rename the file "lockdownd" to "lockdownd_orig" (# mv lockdownd lockdownd_orig)
4. Upload the lockdownd fro the zip file above.
5. Set the file permissions to octal 555 (# chmod ou+rx)
6. Reboot the phone - it SHOULD now be activated.

Once you do this you can use winscp(freeware) to secure ftp on the phone.If its a 1.1.1 username is: root password is: alpine

Just wanted to help a lil bit there

I tried that. No luck... I think I've given up on trying to get 1.1.2 to work. I can't even get 1.1.1 to work. After the failed attempt with the lockdownd 1.1.2 I restored to 1.1.1, downgraded the base band, restored to 1.1.1 again, tiffed, jailbroke, anySIM 1.1'd and again the phone became "unlocked" but I still have the "incorrect sim" message, and of course, no service.

I had originally bought the phone with 1.0.2 and a hardware unlock, and tried to upgrade, and through many attempts at everything landed myself in this situation. I currently have the IMEI of 0049XXXXX. Might this have something to do with it. I understand most of the other parts but I don't understand what the IMEI is or why 0049 is bad.

If anyone would be willing the walk me through this I have most of the messengers and would be very appreciative.
