TurboSim - "E" (edge) letter next to carrier on orange uk.
Hi
Just noticed today that i have no E letter next to carrier name. (http://www.phonearea.net/wp-content/...ked_iphone.jpg)
So im not running EDGE if im right. Im on turboSIM and according to this http://www.orangepartner.com/site/en...dge_launch.jsp there is EDGE service in orange.
Now my question :
1. Is any one on turboSIM with real edge (E letter) on Orange UK
2. Is any one with unlocked iPhone (anySim) with real edge (E letter) on Orange UK
Thanks

There may not be EDGE coverage where you are located, it tends to be sporadic and especially if signal is low or you are in the country then you may not get EDGE. On O2 I tend to only get EDGE near the motorway (locally) until they rollout more.

Im in london, and I never got E that is sure.

I use a turbo-sim card and do not have the E. Only a blue Box.
Before the update to 1.1.1 i have used the software-hack anysim and had the E

I heard that E is new feature in 1.1.2 ... i mean detection is it edge or not

The symbology for the iPhone data network is:
- Blue box: GPRS data network
- "E" showing menaing that the GPRS is in "ENHANCED" mode (E-GPRS) that is
also known as EDGE
Apple should have used the "G" for plain GPRS, as it's what other manufactures do. In fact there are a few replacement icons around that change the plain blue square for a "G".
What it means: YOUR DATA NETWORK IN THE CURRENT AREA IS SLOWER.
It does not happen in the US, but in the UK there are lots of areas with just plain GPRS.
