Default Trying to relock my iPhone

    Hi there,

In preparation for the new firmware, I attempted to relock my iPhone using the instructions at http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/24/how-t...irmware-update.

Everything seemed to work fine until I restored my iPhone in iTunes. Then when I restarted it said "Incorrect SIM - Insert an unlocked and valid AT&T SIM to activate iPhone."

I used Independence to activate and Installer to get SSH working on the phone, but I still can't get the phone using my phone number connected to AT&T. I tried to use iASign, but I got the error "zsh: bad CPU type in executable: ./iASign.mac"

I feel like I'm almost there, I just need this last piece. Can anybody help? Once I get the SIM part working, I just want to restore the iPhone so I have a "factory-fresh" unit.

    Thanks!
    Robert--

What are you trying to do? You want to relock the iphone and than be able to use with ATT card without the 2 year contract?

    Hi LA20,

I'd like to get my unit back to a locked condition using the original AT&T activated SIM with my original phone number on it.

I think the data is on the SIM, but the iPhone is not activated to it.

I hope that answers your question and doesn't confuse things more

    Thanks,
    Robert--

So, if I am getting this right, you are one of the early adopters who have signed a 2 year contracts and activated through ATT?

When the sim unlock appears you did the sim unlock and continue using ATT card?

Sorry for not really understanding your situation. Let everyone know what you have done to the iphone before so that we can help you.

I think he has an unlocked phone and is trying to lock it again so he can update to 1.1.1. If that's the case, I can't think why....surely he'll be without a phone until or even if 1.1.1 gets hacked.

If this is the case than you need to reflash the modem to go back to virgin state.

and than go through the activation process with ATT which will lock you down for 2 years.

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for being patient. Here's the story from beginning to end:

    - I bought a new iPhone and activated it with AT&T (signed the 2-year contract and all)
    - I hacked the phone using Installer.app and added a bunch of programs.
    - I unlocked the phone using AnySIM so I could use my T-Mobile SIM (I travel overseas a lot)
    - After my phone became less stable, and hearing about the upcoming firmware update, I decided to put my phone back to its 'virgin' state thinking I would continue to use the original activated AT&T sim that came with the iPhone. Using the instructions at http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/24/how-t...irmware-update I was able to reflash the phone.
    - However, after the reflash, I got the "Incorrect SIM - Insert an unlocked and valid AT&T SIM to activate iPhone." error.
    - After reading online, I finally decided to try AnySIM.app again just so I could make and receive phone calls.
    - Now when I connect to iTunes I get an error "The iPhone "Roberts iPhone" cannot be used with iTunes because the IMEI is incorrect."

So now I have a phone that has all the iPhone functionality (including Visual Voicemail, YouTube, email, etc). But it won't connect to iTunes.

My goal is to use the iPhone with the original activated AT&T SIM with the factory installed firmware. Alternatively, a functioning iPhone that can connect to iTunes would be ok as well.

Sorry for the long explanation. I know I can solve this, I just need some help.

    Thanks!
    Robert--

I see, basically do a virgin restore again with that same website and than restore to your 1.0.2 (NOTE: 1.0.2). And reactivate your iphone by going through the iTunes activation screen with ATT. I think they should be able to detect your account (maybe I am not sure).

The NOTE: 1.0.2 is there because I heard they are going to deploy 1.1.1 soon, if you are not careful and restore to 1.1.1 and as a result your iphone bricked, I am not going to be responsible for that.

In order to restore to 1.0.2 do a little search you can download the file.

    Hey!

I am definitely restoring the 1.02 firmware. It seems like things are going ok now except for my IMEI number being incorrect. iTunes won't even look at my phone now due to this problem. Whenever I plug into iTunes, I get a dialog box that says "The iPhone.....cannot be used with iTunes because the IMEI is incorrect." Then, iTunes loads but won't interact with the phone.

I was hoping iTunes would restore my activation settings as you said below, but all I get is the above mentioned error.

This is a complete guess, but I think there's a bunch of data on the SIM card that's not matching up to the reflashed baseband firmware. I could be wrong, but my theory is that's why I kept getting the 'incorrect SIM' errors and now I'm getting an incorrect IMEI error.

What do you think? Again, thanks a ton for your help!

    Robert--

This is crazy. Everywhere when someone asks how to virginize their phone, they are sent to the iphonegoboom site, yet this has a fatal flaw, that I have cconfirmed 10 times over. When you are done, and you have your active ATT SIM in, it says invalid SIM. This is because the IMEI gets changed to something else. I defy anyone that says that this method actually worked to virginize their phone. If this has worked for someone what did you do to make this work.

Like the OP, I bought my iPhone on day 0. I activated it on ATT. Since I am going to travel a bunch overseas, I unlocked my phone using the CLI method, ie ./iUnlock ...

Unlock worked great, but in anticipation of the 1.1.1 firmware which has some stuff I want/need, I went to relock my phone using the method at iphonegoboom, which is the same method that Erica S. posted at TUAW. Like the OP, I got the invalid sim message and my IMEI was changed. The only way to recover was to attempt the unlock again which failed on the first AT step in minicom, but my phone was unlocked and usable again. I even queried the baseband for the status and I had a status 4 in the bit that tells you if your phone is unlocked or unlockable.

So far nobody can tell me why I cant virginize and use the phone afterwards. The boards are just full of people saying use this method at iphonegoboom, and I don't believe that this really works. Someone prove me wrong. And I am not looking for "Why would you want 1.1.1", I really dont want to hear opinion on that, just technical reasoning.
