T-Mobile refused me services because of iPhone!
Just got off the phone with t-mobile and they refused to upgrade me to their Total Internet plan because I am using an iPhone. I never thought in a million years that they could deny me service.
They first denied me because I am on a Smart Access (horrid credit) plan. She looked into it and removed that restriction because I had been with them for so long with no default in payment.
Then she came back on the line and said that her supervisor would not approve my upgrade because I was using an unsupported phone. I asked "you have the EDGE network, right?" She replied "yes." I told her that I know these phones to be compatible with that network and she still refused.
Good thing that I have a good friend that has worked for t-mobile for the last 7 years. I know it was not the poor girls fault, but this is a load of shit. You can't refuse a customer services. Talk about backward business.
END OF RANT/

"No, sir. We don't want your money. Cause .. err .. your phone doesn't support .. umm .. anything at all!"

That is way stupid....I suggest following:
Take a "regular" mobile phone with EDGE. Put in your SIM and call them again. Now they should check your phone and see you have Nokia for example. They change service, you change the phone....

just log into my-tmobile.com and add it yourself.

Can't you just login to my.tmobile.com and change your phone to a phone that supports total internet, any smartphone will work. then, add the service?
That is how I made the changes. Hope it works for you.

I had to have the Smart Access restriction off before I can do that. With how abruptly our call ended, I do not know if that part was completed. Like I said, my friend will take care of me. I just could not believe it.

While it's certainly possible for them to check your phone based on your IMEI, I'm quite surprised that they bother to do so.
For example, Rogers still believes I'm using an E62 based on my profile (I bought it from them as a hardware upgrade), despite the fact that was using a Nokia E90 since mid-July, and an iPhone for the past two weeks (and have talked to them about adding/removing services in the interim).

some of the tech support and customer service employed at tmobile dont have half a brain for common sense, i didnt even bother calling them. I logged in to my.tmobile.com and switched my phone from sidekick3 to DASH smartphone, and the total internet plan appeared on the list of features and plans. From there, i just click click and clicked and was on my way. EDGE was working within 15 minutes.

I've been in the cell business a while. Here's a secret: if you call back, you'll get another person. Just hang up and call back.
When I called t-mo, the guy was so excited I got an unlocked iPhone. We talked phone for a while and stuff.
Don't let a bad experience ruin it for you. Call back and ask for the total internet plan and then tell them you've got an iPhone. Or tell them you've got a dash or something. Or set it up online.

The situation just shocked me. It was not a problem, just shocking. I did get it sorted out. Called my friend and my data plan is worked out. I just could not believe that they denied me in the first place. What a stupid decision by the supervisor.
