at&t activated iphone then updated?
does anyone have an iphone that was activated through at&t first, then unlocked for use, and then updated to 1.1.1?

well i didn't do that which probably would have been smarter. but i'm curious if the following would work, perhaps:
1. activate NOW through at&t (even though my iphone is unlocked)
2. stay contracted w/ at&t while i do the software update
3. cancel my contract w/ at&t
4. then put in tmobile sim in my previously unlocked iphone
i'm just wondering in general, if legitimately activated phones but then unlocked still work w/ the update, then maybe activating NOW and then updating will work too...

Hi, I did the same u did, the only different thing was that I unlocked first, then cancelled contract... I want to know, does your YouTube works? Did u do something? I can only acces ''bookmarks'' and ''featured'' and ''history'', but not ''most viewed'' and ''search''.
I know this is not what u guys are talking about in this thread, I am sorry if I am disturbing.

DON'T DO IT!!!
I activated my iPhone using the AT&T GoPhone contract.
I software unlocked the iPhone (FW 1.0.2) and updated to FW 1.1.1 today.
Apparently FW 1.1.1 doesn't update the baseband fw too when it "recognizes" a modded baseband fw, so you're stuck in the activation process because the phone part of the iPhone is still unlocked but the activation process is looking for a valid SIM card. It doesn't even accept the original AT&T SIM card with an active contract! Whatever the real reason is: it doesn't work anymore.
So if you activated your iPhone using a valid AT&T contract and you afterwards software unlocked your iPhone, forget about the FW 1.1.1 update because it will keep you stuck in the activation process once the FW update is completed.
This doesn't mean the iPhone is bricked, someone just needs to find a method to tell the iPhone to do a FULL recovery, including the baseband. Jailbreaking it could be another possible solution to fix the issues with the activation. Right now, stay away from FW 1.1.1 if you software unlocked your iPhone, even if you activated it OFFICIALLY!
